* Japan - Mitsubishi Fuso secures order for 641 trucks in Malaysia and Australia

Kawasaki-shi,Kanagawa,Japan -ABR (London,EN,UK) -18 January 2013: -- Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus, a subsidiary of Daimler has secured an order for 641 trucks in Malaysia and Australia... The order includes 466 medium-duty Fuso Fighter trucks for Malaysian waste disposal company Southern Waste Management (SWM) and 185 light-duty Fuso Canter trucks for the StarTrack freight and logistics services in Australia... The company expects to reach the target of selling 200,000 commercial vehicles per year under 'FUSO 2015' growth plans with the order...
* UK - Keep megatrucks off our roads says Euro MP from Golborne

London,UK -Leigh Journal -18 January 2013: -- The prospect of monster trucks being let loose on Britain's roads is a frightening one says Golborne Euro MP, Brian Simpson, the chairman of the European Parliament's transport committee... Mr Simpson has raised concerns over the possibility that 'mega trucks' weighing as much as 60 tonnes and measuring 25 metres in length may soon be used to transport goods in Britain... Such giants can currently be used in some European countries but are not allowed to cross national borders... In a debate in the European Parliament Mr Simpson reiterated his opposition to mega trucks, arguing that the current rules should be upheld so that the UK is able to maintain its present weight and length limits for lorries...
* South Africa - MAN looks to source more parts in SA as new legislation looms
Olifantsfontein,Gauteng,SA -Engineers News, by Irma Venter -10 January 2013: -- MAN Truck and Bus South Africa has kickstarted a project to increase the local content on its South African assembled buses and trucks... MAN Truck and Bus SA manufactures bus bodies at its Olifantsfontein plant in Gauteng, with both the bus and truck chassis’s assembled at a facility in KwaZulu-Natal... Current local content is between 10% and 15% on trucks, by value, and includes components such as tyres, certain exhaust parts, air cleaners, bracketry and the fifth wheel. The target is to increase this in any way possible... While imperatives such as job creation and being a good corporate citizen are driving the MAN initiative, he adds, more pending changes in legislation is also a powerful motivator...
* Malaysia - Volvo, Malaysian agency team up for road safety innovation

Bernama,Malaysia -Scand (Asia) -17 January 2013: -- An initiative to find solutions to Malaysia's road accidents will be implemented by Volvo Trucks and the Innovation Agency of Malaysia throughout 2013... Swedish manufacturer, Volvo Trucks, has partnered with the Innovation Agency of Malaysia to find innovation solutions to make Malaysian roads safer for both motorcycles and trucks... Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Kuala Lumpur Hospital's Forensic Department revealed that commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses and trailers accounted for the highest percentage of total number of fatal crashes involving motorcyclist... Together with the Innovation Agency's involvement, the research is bound to promote and support collaboration between the industry and academic and government bodies to develop and implement solutions to the existing challenge...
