* Michigan - Banks to sell government's 300 million shares of GM
Detroit,MICH,USA -Associated Press/The Detroit News, by Tom Krisher and Dee-Ann Durbin -January 17, 2013: -- The U.S. Treasury Department has hired JPMorgan Securities and Citigroup Global Markets to sell its remaining stake in General Motors and bring an end to almost four years of partial government ownership of the carmaker... The government, which got its stake in a $49.5 billion bailout of the company in 2009, still holds 300 million shares of GM common stock, giving it 19 percent of the auto giant. Treasury officials revealed hiring JPMorgan and Citigroup on Wednesday in documents posted on the department's website... The banks will get one cent for every share they sell for a fee of up to $3 million...
* California - Toyota settles bellwether wrongful death lawsuit
Los Angeles,CAL,USA -Associated Press/The Detroit News, by Andrew Dalton -January 18, 2013: -- Toyota Motor Corp. has settled what was to be the first in a group of hundreds of pending wrongful death and injury lawsuits involving sudden unintended acceleration by Toyota vehicles, a company spokesman said Thursday... Toyota reached the agreement in the case brought by the family of Paul Van Alfen and Charlene Jones Lloyd, spokeswoman Celeste Migliore said. They were killed when their Camry slammed into a wall in Utah in 2010... Migliore would not disclose the financial terms, and plaintiffs' attorney Robert Krause did not reply to a phone message. The remaining lawsuits are not affected by the settlement, Migliore said...

* Feds confirm auto recalls rose 4.5% in '12
Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -January 18, 2013: -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed Thursday that vehicle recalls in 2012 rose by 4.5 percent to 16.2 million... In total, automakers and other vehicle manufacturers issued 586 recall campaigns, down from 596 in 2011. Some 15.5 million vehicles were recalled in 2011, NHTSA said... The Detroit News first reported the yearly recall tally, based on a review of all recall campaigns... Toyota Motor Corp. led all automakers with 5.3 million vehicles recalled. It topped the list for the third time in four years... But complaints from vehicle owners are falling — down by one-third since the intense publicity around Toyota's sudden acceleration recalls. In 2012, NHTSA received 41,912 complaints, compared with 49,417 in 2011, and 65,765 in 2010...
