* Europe - UPS drops bid to buy TNT Express

Brussels,Belgium -Fleet Owner, by David Cullen -Jan. 15, 2013: -- United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) has abandoned its $6.9-billion (€5.2-billion) attempt to acquire Amsterdam-based TNT Express NV (TNTE)...  UPS initiated the bid last March to better compete in Europe with the continent’s largest-package delivery operation, Deutsche Post’s DHL. UPS wanted to buy TNTE both for its European network and its assets in Asia and Latin America, Reuters reported... UPS announced yesterday that the European Commission (EC) had “informed UPS and TNTE that it is “working on a decision to prohibit the proposed acquisition of TNTE” as it determined the takeover would make the business sector less competitive by reducing the number of players serving it...


* UK - BC Logistics saves fuel and money, with GreenRoad

Purfleet,Essex,UK -Transport Engineer -11 Jan 2013: -- KBC Logistics is expanding its use of GreenRoad driver performance management systems to cover its entire fleet following the success of a trial on 20 HGVs last summer . The haulage company says that project has cut fuel consumption by 15% on top of savings of between £600 and £1,000 per month, achieved by minimising vehicle idling... Within the first six weeks of deployment decision, its drivers' risk dropped by 66%. KBC's insurer Towergate Underwriting supported the initial trial, and latterly, the insurance risk has fallen further, reflecting a reduction in accidents as well as vehicle wear and tear...


* California - Menlo Worldwide expands in Singapore

San Francisco,CAL,USA -Fleet Owner -Jan. 14, 2013: -- Logistics company Menlo Worldwide officially opened a new warehousing and retail distribution management center in Singapore last week. The company, a global subsidiary of Con-way Inc., provides logistics, transportation management and supply chain services on five continents... Established in Singapore more than a decade ago, the company’s services range from dedicated contract logistics to warehousing, distribution and transportation management; supply chain engineering and other value-added services across multiple industries... The new 37,000-square-meter Sunview center increases the company’s footprint in Singapore to seven facilities totaling 195,000 square meters. Representing an investment of S$50 million by Menlo and its development partner, Second Development Pte Ltd...
