* UK - Aston Martin's $280,000 Vanquish battles Ferrari for beauty prize
Avondale,LA,USA -Bloomberg News/The Detroit News, by Jason H. Harper -January 20, 2013: -- A sound approaches. At first it's a high-pitched keen, then it gets closer and you can hear the lower reverberations, the snarl of the thing. Something wicked this way comes... A group of onlookers stands on pit row, waiting to see the brand new sports car from Aston Martin make its virgin circuit on the New Orleans racetrack NOLA Motorsports Park. When it appears, bright orange paint glowing in the sunlight, it's moving fast... The coupe makes a hard turn, slinging around a tight circular corner, then whooshes by. This is the Vanquish, $282,100 worth of exotic English machinery... As soon as the car glides into pit lane, I jam on my helmet and hustle inside. I'm curious to see how the new top-of- the-line Aston handles out here. I've had a DB9 and 12-cylinder Vantage on the racetrack, and neither felt exactly at home... Off-the-lot Aston Martins are most likely to be found slipstreaming through the Alps or perhaps squiring A-listers around the Hollywood Hills...
* Michigan - Marchionne: Alfa Romeo coming this year to U.S.
Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Karl Henkel -19 Jan 2012: -- The Alfa Romeo 4C, a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports car, is expected to come to the U.S. by the end of 2013, Chrysler Group LLC and Fiat SpA CEO, Sergio Marchionne, said Friday... The announcement that the 4C would be ready for the U.S. by year's end contradicts a statement he made earlier in the week at the North American International Auto Show, when he said it would delayed... Marchionne said the powertrain in the 4C and other Alfa Romeo cars would be built in Italy. Fiat hasn't been able to finalize all elements of a U.S. launch of Alfa Romeo... The new 4C it will be the first mass-produced Alfa Romeo to be sold in the United States since the carmaker stopped exporting cars here in 1995... The sports car, Alfa Romeo says, can go from zero to 62 in less than five seconds...

This new drop-top can be ordered dozens, maybe hundreds, of different ways if you count all the drivetrain combinations, along with special trim, color and wheel combinations. Each exhibits a distinct personality... The buffet of choices includes three different engines, three transmissions and three appearance versions that pay tribute to past motoring eras... Not only does the new VW convertible meld the endearing and familiar look of the original Beetle with modern styling and structure, it manages to bear a strong family resemblance to Porsche sports cars, which are considerably more expensive...
