* New York - Hurricane Sandy wipes out 200,000 vehicles 

Bloomberg News / The Detroit News, by Alan Ohnsman and Craig Trudell -Nov 8, 2012: -- Toyota Motor Corp., Chrysler Group LLC, Nissan Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co. plan to scrap about 15,000 vehicles damaged by Hurricane Sandy as automakers and dealers continue assessing the storm's impact... Nissan alone estimates more than 6,000 Nissan and luxury Infiniti brand cars and light trucks are "un-saleable" because of the storm, Travis Parman, a company spokesman, said late Tuesday. Including used autos and those of individual owners, as many as 200,000 may have to be replaced, said Larry Dixon, senior analyst for the National Automobile Dealers Association...

Arlington,VA,USA -Transport Topics -8 Nov 2012: -- The trucking industry is facing a big task in the Northeast following Hurricane Sandy, American Trucking Associations, President, Bill Graves, said in a TV interview Thursday... Graves told Fox Business News that trucks will need to restock grocery store shelves and cited reports of up to 15,000 damaged cars at the Port of Newark that will need to be disposed of and eventually replaced, adding work for auto carriers... He said the flatbed sector would see “a whole lot of activity” with the construction materials that will be needed in the cleanup and rebuilding following last week’s storm, and said that trucking was moving fuel as quickly as possible into the affected region...

* DC - FMCSA extends emergency declaration through Nov. 27 

Washington,DC,USA -Land Line -8 Nov 2012: -- The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has extended the declaration of emergency through Nov. 27 in response to Hurricane Sandy... Extreme weather conditions and the ongoing relief effort were enough for the agency to extend the declaration past the initial projected date of Nov. 12... The declaration includes an online clearinghouse for information by state. It also includes contact information for states and hotlines for truckers headed to the area...


* New York - Issues temporary overweight permit for hurricane relief 

Albany,NY,USA -Land Line, by David Tanner -8 Nov 2012: -- The New York State DOT has issued a temporary permit to allow higher gross weights for trucks hauling emergency relief to areas affected by Hurricane Sandy... According to information provided by OOIDA Director of Security Operations Doug Morris, the overweight permits apply to divisible loads through Dec. 15... According to the posting, a three-axle vehicle can weigh up to 64,000 pounds GVR; four axles up to 75,000 pounds; five axles up to 102,000 pounds, six axles up to 107,000 pounds; seven axles up to 117,000 pounds... Important to note, the permit does not allow the load to exceed axle and axle group weights, and must not exceed manufacturers’ limits on axles and tires... The permit also does not allow overweight trucks to use certain bridges and restricted routes, such as bridges operated by the Metropolitan Bridge Authority and New York City DOT...
