* Germany - Volkswagen launches performance upgrades for Amarok
Wolfsburg,Germany -Transport Engineer, by John Challen -7 Nov 2012: -- Volkswagen's Amarok pick-up has been subjected to an engine upgrade, with the 163bhp BiTDI engine boosted to 180bhp... At the same time, to improve environmental and fuel efficiency, the manufacturer's BlueMotion technology has been added to models in the range... BlueMotion technology includes low rolling resistance tyres, stop/start and regenerative braking... Towing limits have increased from 2,800kg to 3,000kg for manual models, while a new eight-speed automatic transmission has been introduced with a towing limit of 3,200kg... Although the 180bhp engine is over 10% more powerful than the previous model, because of the new technology, it is 3.9% more economical – with a combined fuel economy of 37.2 mpg, compared to 35.8 mpg...
* India - Scania rolls out trucks for trials, gears up to launch India facility
Chennai,India -My Digital FC, by G Balachandar -Nov 7, 2012: -- Swedish truck maker Scania, now owned by German Volkswagen, has rolled out a new range of trucks for trial runs on Indian roads as the company is gearing up to commence its new truck assembly unit near Bangalore by early next year. The company, which formed its Indian subsidiary last year, has signalled its intent to focus more on value game and offer optimal TCO (total cost of ownership) in its trucks...
* India - Eicher Motors, Volvo AB to invest $331 mn in India joint venture
New Delhi,India -REUTERS/The Economic India Times -7 Nov, 2012: -- Eicher Motors and Volvo AB will invest 18 billion rupees ($331 million) over the next two years in their Indian joint venture, Eicher's head said on Wednesday, and begin exports of engines to Volvo's European operations next year... The Eicher-Volvo JV will roll out a new range of trucks and buses built in India using Volvo technology by the end of 2013, and look to export these vehicles to Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia within two to three years, Eicher's managing director said...
* Sweden - Haldex inks $52m automatic brake adjuster deal for truckmaker
Landskrona,Sweden -Just-Auto (UK), by Simon Warburton -7 November 2012: -- Haldex has signed a Long Term Agreement (LTA) with an unnamed global truck manufacturer for the continued global supply of its automatic brake adjuster (ABA) to a total value of SEK350m (US£52m) for a five year period... Haldex says it has supplied the truck manufacturer since the early 1970s... Earlier this year Haldex marked its supply of the 70 millionth Automatic Brake Adjuster, which it says "has generated jobs for thousands over several decades."... The product is manufactured in Sweden, US, Brazil, India and China serving customers on a regional basis...
* UK - Mega-truck talks resume
London,EN,UK -Irish Trucker News -9 November 2012: -- UK lobby group slams research claiming longer HGVs will have no significant impact on road safety in the UK... Lobby group Freight on Rail has slammed new research on the impact of mega-trucks on the UK as “flawed”... In advance of an EC review of the legislation on the permitted sizes of HGVs, due by the end of the year, Freight on Rail claims the research, commissioned by US-based manufacturer Kimberly-Clark, is trying to overturn the UK ban on 25-metre (82ft) trucks...
