* Arkansas - Driver Shortage Boosting Dedicated U.S. Trucking Business

J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. and Werner Enterprises Inc. are among carriers benefiting from an “accelerating trend” that’s helping to buoy the trucking industry, according to John Larkin, managing director in Baltimore at Stifel Nicolaus and Co...  Dedicated-fleet services -- provided by a carrier that allocates a fleet of trucks to specific customers -- are “in vogue” because shippers want to eliminate the uncertainty related with procuring vehicles, he said... These services now are “the preferred approach to lock in capacity” for core shipments, Larkin said. Further, because customers are charged the same amount whether a truck is empty or full, they can better manage their costs in the event of a shortage by negotiating rates for “defined, predictable routes” in advance, he added...


* Virginia - ATA Releases Driver Shortage Analysis Paper 

Arlington,VA,USA -American Trucking Associations/PRNewswire-USNewswire/The Sacramento Bee -Nov. 5, 2012: -- Today, American Trucking Associations released an analysis of the shortage of truck drivers, concluding that the current shortage is acute and limited primarily to the truckload sector of the industry; but that long-term trends could cause the shortage to explode in the next decade... In the paper, ATA said that while private fleets and less-than-truckload carriers may have some difficulty hiring drivers, the bulk of the shortage was confined to long-haul, over-the-road truckload carriers...


* Nevada - ITS boosts driver training initiative 

Sparks,NV,USA -Northern Nevada Business Weekly, by Rob Sabo -5 Nov 2012: -- A program started six months ago to groom new big-rig truck drivers has resulted in more than a dozen new hires for ITS Logistics, and President and Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Lynch, says the company’s driver-training program could become it’s best resource to overcome an industry-wide driver shortage... Nationwide, the trucking companies say they are short at least 20,000 drivers, and Nevada companies share in the pain... The company provides candidates who have recently graduated from a truck driving school with additional training. Driver trainees, for instance, spend several days working alongside ITS Logistics mechanics to learn the essentials of truck and trailer maintenance. They also spend two to three weeks driving local routes, learning to backing skills and learning to drive on congested roads... Finally, they complete crucial over-the-road training on long-haul routes with a trainer...  


* California - Ripped off drivers 

San Marcos,CAL,USA -Topix -Oct 30, 2012: -- A lot of honest trucking companies that are playing by the rules have to compete with criminal outlaw "logistics" companies who have "Illegal Alien truckers" on their payroll who are happy to drive over hours and do anything illegal to put more money in their pockets. These ilegals dont even have a real driver license...  all fake documents...  they get these loads from the shipper and can "outperform" the honest trucking companies... Never a mention of catching those crooked operators. Honest drivers and companies are being driven out of business by the criminals...   Crooked shippers ant wait to give the loads to these lower cost outlaw imigrunts.......its ridiculous...
