* USA - Freightliner rolls out vocational Coronado

Portland, OR, USA -Fleet Owner -Oct 7, 2009: -- The Freightliner Trucks division of Daimler Trucks North America unveiled a vocational version of its Coronado Class 8 highway tractor, dubbed the Coronado Severe Duty (SD) model, at the International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition being held this week in Louisville... The OEM said the Coronado SD is designed for severe-duty applications. It boasts both set-back and set-forward axle configurations; a fiberglass hood; an all-aluminum cab; 90-degree hood tilt to provide easy engine access for daily checks; and fenders that come standard with impact absorbing material to help eliminate damage and cracks common with vocational operations... (Photo from Freightliner) The Coronado SD is engineered to be “2010-ready” and can be equipped with Detroit Diesel DD13, DD15, and DD16 engines, as well as the Cummins ISX. All these powerplants use selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to reduce NOx emissions down to the levels required by 2010 EPA engines standards...


* Germany - MAN enters partnership with China's Sinotruk

Frankfurt,Germany -The Associated Press/Business Week (USA) -October 7, 2009: -- German truck maker MAN SE has entered into a partnership with China's Sinotruk that will see it acquire a 25 percent stake in the state-owned truck maker for euro560 million ($823 million), the company said Wednesday... Munich-based MAN said Chinese authorities approved the transaction. It added it would raise the cash through a capital increase, but didn't provide more details... Sinotruk, headquartered in Jinan, Shandong, holds some 25 percent of the Chinese market and sold more than 100,000 trucks in 2008 with sales of euro2.5 billion ($3.7 billion)... MAN is one of Europe's largest truck makers, in which Volkswagen AG is the single biggest shareholder. MAN had sales near euro15 billion in 2008...


* Germany - MAN CEO says no real signs truck demand recovery


Frankfurt,Germany -Reuters,by Edward Taylor, and David Holmes -Oct 9, 2009:
-- Man SE CEO, Hakan Samuelsson told the Financial Times the truck industry needs to "wait for real signs of improvement" and pre-crisis levels of demand for trucks won't return before 2010... "We are seeing a levelling out at a low level and its difficult to see that it will get much worse in Europe, but real signs of recovery are still to come. Europe is down maybe half or more than half [but] Brazil and China are much more positive," Samuelsson told the paper... Dampening expectations of a recovery to peak levels last seen in 2007, he said: "We should maybe also not be too disappointed if the next peak is maybe a bit lower"...


* Russia - Fiat's Marchionne says eyes Russian SUV production

Moscow,Russia -Reuters, by Hans Peters & Darya Korsunskaya & Dmitry Zhdannikov -Oct 8, 2009: -- Italy's car maker Fiat, which part-owns U.S. Chrysler Group, would like to launch production of Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Russia, its chief executive, Sergio Marchionne, said on Thursday... The comment came as Marchionne came to Moscow to sign a deal between Fiat's U.S. subsidiary Case New Holland Inc and Kamaz, Russia's largest truck maker, to set up a venture to produce and sell agricultural and construction machinery...


* South Korea - SK Energy close to battery deal with Mitsubishi Fuso

Seoul,SKorea -Reuters, by Cho Meeyoung & Valerie Lee -Oct 8, 2009: -- South Korea's SK Energy is in the final stages of talks to supply rechargeable batteries to Daimler's Japanese truck unit, Mitsubishi Fuso, a source at SK Energy said on Thursday... Mitsubishi Fuso is the world's largest commercial vehicle maker in which Daimler holds an 85-percent stake. The remainder is being held by the Mitsubishi group companies... SK Energy, South Korea's top oil refiner, has been testing mass production lithium-ion batteries for hybrid electric vehicles, helping its shares spike by nearly 30 percent in the past one month...
