CHARGING SYSTEMS * Europe - Motorist Group Slams ‘Congestion Pricing’

Brussels,Belgium -Greeninc.blogs/New York Times (NY,USA) -October 2, 2009: -- A group representing car drivers has strongly condemned the expansion in Europe of systems that charge motorists entering heavily trafficked areas... The Eurocouncil of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, or F.I.A., said Friday that charging systems were an assault on individual rights, a threat to prosperity and ineffective at curbing traffic... The group was reacting to a public consultation put forward this week by the European Commission studying urban pricing policies and the idea of “smart charging” for motorists... Instead of charges, the drivers’ lobby said Europe needed “better planning and infrastructural measures” at the national level...
