HYBRID TRUCK * USA - Eaton plug-in electric truck with hybrid diesel technology unveiled in California
Cleveland,OH,USA -The Plain Dealer, by Frank Bentayou -March 19, 2009: -- President Barack Obama's presence at the unveiling today of a new plug-in hybrid power unit made the product introduction an especially high-profile one for Cleveland's Eaton Corp.... The industrial manufacturing company's diesel-electric system is the power source for the experimental electric-utility truck that provided a backdrop for Obama's speech in Pomona, Calif., urging more green innovation... Eaton invested plenty of that in the vehicle it rolled out today. With its lithium ion batteries, which operators can charge on the road with the onboard diesel engine or through wall outlets, the truck is expected to deliver 70 percent better fuel efficiency than a conventionally powered vehicle. It also will be able to operate its boom-and-bucket accessories without the noise, fuel consumption or pollution of diesel-run systems...
