* Japan - Isuzu Motors to Assemble Trucks in Russia
Tokyo,Japan -Bloomberg/The St. Petersburg Times (St. Petersburg,Russia) -7 April 2008: -- Isuzu Motors Ltd., Japan’s biggest maker of light-duty trucks, will assemble vehicles in Russia with Severstal-Avto beginning in August as the country’s demand for commercial vehicles rises... The venture will have an annual capacity of 25,000 units, Tokyo-based Isuzu said Monday in a statement. Isuzu plans to more than triple truck sales in Russia to 8,000 vehicles this year, the company said. Severstal holds a 66 percent stake in the venture, Isuzu owns 29 percent and Sojitz has five percent, Isuzu said. The venture will make Isuzu’s Elf model light-duty truck, which can haul payloads of as much as three tons...
* USA - Nissan to build and sell commercial vehicles
Detroit,Mich,USA -AP/NBC 15 -7 Apr 2008: -- Nissan Motor Co. says it will build and sell light commercial vehicles in the U.S., using its existing work force and factories... The Japanese automaker said Monday it will enter the U.S. market with three vehicles starting in the first half of 2010, all built at its plant in Canton, Miss... Nissan would not say what models it would build, but the company says they could run from pickup trucks to buses... Nissan has a strong presence globally in commercial vehicles but has not sold them in the United States...
* India - Tata to focus on 'world truck', goes slow on Iveco deal
Mumbai,India -The Economic Times, by Lijee Philip ( Gurgaon,Haryana,India) -7 Apr, 2008: -- Auto major Tata Motors has put its agreement with Iveco, Fiat’s commercial vehicle (CV) arm, on hold for the moment and is working full throttle on its high-profile ‘world truck’ project. The country’s largest CV maker is expected to phase out its existing heavy and medium range trucks, replacing them with the world truck... Tata Motors is developing the world truck along with its subsidiary Daewoo Commercial Vehicles on a completely new platform. The trucks powered with 185-565 hp engines will compete with the likes Volvo, Nissan, Mercedes Benz and MAN...
