"GREEN" NEWS * USA - California Cuts Requirement for Zero-Emission Vehicles
California again reduces electric, fuel-cell vehicle requirements
Washington,DC,USA -The Washington Post -28 Mar 2008: -- Originally targeted 10% of all vehicles sold in 2003 to be zero-emission. New rule requires 7,500 zero-emission vehicles by 2014... About 1.5M new vehicles sold in CA each year. CA wants automakers to sell 60K plug-in hybrids... No automaker has a commercially viable zero-emission vehicle... CA regulators were facing lawsuit from automakers... More important, they just didn't see automakers mass-producing hydrogen cars... Ruling allows automakers to focus on promising technologies... Move has upset environmentalists but gives relief to automakers... 12 other states adopted CA regulations; likely to follow CA's lead...
