Louisville,Ky,USA -Fleet Owner, by David Cullen -Mar 27, 2008: -- After announcing its subsidiary Detroit Diesel will deploy selective catalytic reduction (SCR) aftertreatment—which uses urea—to meet EPA 2010 emissions rules, Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) sought this morning to dispel what it regards as misinformation about SCR that it believes is confusing North American fleet owners... SCR systems require on-board storage and injection of urea. 20-gal urea tank used by SCR system should require refilling only about every 5-6K highway miles... Automotive-grade urea is non-toxic, environment friendly and poses no real hazards when used properly... 500000 heavy-duty trucks with SCR are on road in Europe... Moreover, Detroit Diesel BlueTec system with SCR technology projected to increase fuel efficiency 3-5%...
