* U.K. - Regulator Drops Civil Probe of Daimler, Fiat Truck Units
London,EN,UK -Bloomberg, by Erik Larson -Jun 15, 2012: -- Britain’s antitrust regulator dropped a civil probe into a suspected cartel of truckmakers to let the European Union focus on the case involving Daimler AG’s U.K. Mercedes-Benz unit and Fiat SpA’s Iveco subsidiary... The European Union’s competition regulator in Brussels (Belgium), which is running a parallel case, is “particularly well placed” to handle the investigation on a wider level, the Office of Fair Trading said in a statement today in London... The probe, which started in September 2010, before the EU version, involved at least five companies including Scania AB and Volvo AB. The probe dropped a criminal version of the case in December, a year after a Daimler executive was arrested...
* Spain - Fiat Industrial to Double Truck Production in

Madrid,Spain -Dow Jones Newswires/Fox Business, by Gilles Castonguay -June 15, 2012: -- Fiat Industrial SpA said Friday it plans to invest 500 million euros ($628.9 million) in Spain to double production of heavy trucks under its Iveco brand, leading to the creation of 1,200 jobs... Fiat Industrial said in a statement the investment that it will make at its plants in Madrid and Valladolid will take four years... The company will also set up a research and development center in Madrid to work on new models, it said... More than 80% of what the plants will produce will be destined for export, it added...
* Sweden - Volvo increases its stake in German engine maker Deutz
Gothenburg,Sweden -ABR (UK) -14 June 2012: -- Swedish truck maker Volvo has signed a deal to increase its stake in German engine manufacturer Deutz, from the current 6.7% to about 25%, by acquiring a total of 22.12 million shares from Same Deutz-Fahr Group... Volvo will pay EUR5.88 per share to buy the stake worth EUR130m, making the company the highest shareholder in the German unit... As per the memorandum of understanding, the companies are also planning to begin a joint venture in China to manufacture medium-duty engines for off-road applications...
* Belarus - Prime ministers of Belarus and Russia discuss possible link-up between truck makers
Minsk,Belarus -RIA Novosti/Naviny.by -15 June 2012: -- Belarusian Prime Minister, Mikhail Myasnikovich, and his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, on Friday discussed a possible link-up between Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) and Russian truck maker KamAZ... Mr. Myasnikovich reiterated that Belarus wanted to hold 50 percent in a joint enterprise that would control MAZ and KamAZ... Speaking on June 14, Alyaksandr Lukashenka (Belarus' President), warned that Belarus would not agree on the link-up unless it had a 50-percent stake. "But a fifty-fifty arrangement does not suit the leadership of that corporation. They want a majority stake and say that Belarus is asking too high a price. Ok, if the price is too high, then don't agree [to it]. Let's work today. MAZ trucks are by no means worse than KamAZ trucks and customers are buying them with pleasure, and not only in ex-Soviet countries but also in Russia," Mr. Lukashenka said...
