Canberra,ACT,Australia -ATA Friday Facts -15 June 2012: -- There were 115 Australian road deaths in May 2012, compared to 109 in May 2011 according to the latest Road Deaths Australia monthly report. However, the annual deaths per 100,000 population has dropped by 1.1 per cent during this time... Compiled by the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics, the reports detail the road toll over the last five years, and track changes that occur in this time... The largest number of fatal crashes in the year ended May 2012 occurred in 0 to 60 km/h speed zones, with 388 crashes. In the same time period, there were 365 fatal crashes in 100 km/h zones... In the past year from May 2011 to May 2012, 1,299 people died on Australian roads, with about half of these fatalities occurring in NSW and Victoria. This has fallen slightly from the year May 2010 to May 2011, where the road toll stood at 1,302...
