* Missouri - Truckload Rates Flat in May, Intermodal Pricing Rises

Truckload rates shifted into lower gear in May, rising only 5 percent from a year ago and staying basically flat from April, according to Cass Information Systems... The Cass Truckload Linehaul Index for May dropped to 108.1 from 108.2 in April but decelerated more sharply year-over-year, a sign rates are rising more slowly... The 5 percent year-over-year increase in May compares with a 6.9 percent increase in April, 7.2 percent increase in March and 8.2 percent jump in February...
* DC - US Freight Shipments in April Up 0.2 Percent From March
Washington,DC,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by Mark Szakonyi-Jun 15, 2012: -- Freight volume up 2.3 percent year-over-year, according to DOT index... U.S. freight shipments rose 0.2 percent in April from a month earlier and 2.3 percent year-over-year, suggesting the slowdown of economic growth since January is continuing, the Transportation Department said... The DOT’s Freight Transportation Services Index registered 111.7. Its December reading was 113.7, the highest since the index began in 1990. The index hit a recession low of 93.4 in April 2009... Despite the 3.9 percent volume decline from December, freight shipments in April were at the highest level since July 2008 when the recession began. The seasonally adjusted index measures the month-to-month changes in for-hire trucking, rail, inland waterway, pipeline and air freight shipments...
* DC - US Intermodal Volume Up 15.2 Percent From Prior Week
Washington,DC,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by Mark Szakonyi -Jun 14, 2012: -- Intermodal traffic rose 3.8 percent year-over-year in week ending June 9... Intermodal shipments on major U.S. railroads in the week ending June 9 rose 3.8 percent year-over-year and jumped 15.2 percent from the prior week, according to the Association of American Railroads. Carload volume in the same week fell 1.7 percent year-over-year but rose 7.6 percent versus the prior week. Grain, coke, iron and steel scrap volumes saw double-digit decreases on a year-over-year basis. Petroleum products, metallic ores, lumber and wood products, and motor vehicles and equipment volumes increased on a double-digit basis in the same period. For the first 23 weeks of 2012, intermodal traffic rose 3 percent from the same period a year ago; carload traffic declined 3.1 percent in the same period...
