Auburn Hills, Michigan,USA -The Car Connection, by Ricard Read -10 May 2012: -- The bad news is that the Ram 1500 pickup has been recalled for a problem with its spare tire. According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some Ram trucks from the 2012 model year were sold with an improperly sized spare tire, which doesn't match the specifications given on the tire placard. As a result, when owners put on the spare, there's a chance that it may activate the vehicle's electronic stability control system, thereby "altering the effectiveness of the ESC system, increasing the risk of a crash"... The good news? The problem only affects 2012 Rams manufactured during a 48-hour period, from January 5 to January 6, 2012. In all, just 129 vehicles are subject to recall... * Michigan - Ford F-150, Mustang, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator, Recalled

Dearborn,MICH,USA -The Car Connection, by Richard Read -May 10, 2012: -- Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for the F-150, Mustang, and Expedition, as well as the Lincoln Navigator... According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these Ford and Lincoln vehicles
may suffer from a faulty transmission range sensor that was improperly
calibrated for the reverse gear... What that means is that
occasionally, it may be difficult or impossible to put those vehicles
into reverse. And when those vehicles do go into reverse, different
things may go wrong... * DC - 2012 BMW 3-Series Recalled For Head Restraint Flaw
(Photo: 2012 BMW 3-Series) Washington,DC,USA -The Car Connection, by Richard Read -May 9, 2012: -- BMW has announced a recall of 3-Series vehicles from the 2012 model year. At the center of that recall is a problem with the front-seat head restraints, which don't meet federal safety standards. In a nutshell, the government mandates that head restraints (or "headrests" as we often call them) allow a maximum downward movement of 25 millimeters, or roughly one inch. That stiffness minimizes the backward motion of occupants' heads during a crash, which helps reduce the occurrence of whiplash and other injuries. But according to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the head restraints in the 2012 BMW 3-Series have an arc of more than 25 millimeters -- at least when they're lifted to their highest positions. And thus, the recall.
* Ford adds 27,000 Windstars to recall list
- Ford Motor Co. is adding 27,000 Windstar minivans from Virginia to a larger recall, because the rear axles can crack and fail. Ford will replace the axles or install brackets to reinforce them. In August 2010, Ford announced it was recalling more than 600,000 Windstars in the U.S. and Canada. The recall covered vans from the 1998 to 2003 model years that were sold in states where salt is used to clear the roads of snow and ice.
