TRUCKS RECALL * USA: From Daimler

* Oregon - Tow hook, fuel pump issues prompt recalls of 2,500-plus Freightliner, Western Star trucks

--- More than 2,500 Freightliner and Western Star trucks are affected by two separate recalls affecting tow hooks and fuel pump issues. Ranging from severe duty to Class 8 long-haul tractors, are included in two separate recalls, according to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration... The largest of the two recalls affects approximately 2,483 trucks and was prompted by tow hooks that were not manufactured properly. Recall documents state the tow hooks could fail during a recovery, causing the sudden release of the truck...

800,000 trucks RECALL * USA: By GM

* Michigan - Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 models could lose power steering, says traffic safety authority

--- General Motors Co is recalling nearly 800,000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks worldwide that could lose power steering, according to documents made public on Friday... The largest US automaker said the 2014 model year trucks could suffer a temporary loss of electric power steering, especially during low-speed turning manoeuvres, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration... The recall includes about 690,000 vehicles in the US, 80,000 in Canada and about 25,000 in other markets. GM dealers will overwrite the vehicle’s software to address the defect... GM has not said when dealers will begin repairing vehicles...

TOYOTA PICKUPS RECALL * USA

* Texas - Toyota recalls 36,000 Tacoma pickups for stalling risk

--- Toyota is recalling 36,000 Tacoma pickups in North and South America because they can stall without warning... The recall involves Tacomas with V-6 engines from the 2016 and 2017 model years. Most of the trucks — 32,000 — are in the U.S. The rest are in Canada, Mexico, Bolivia and Costa Rica... The company says an engine crankshaft timing rotor may have been produced with excessive anti-corrosion coating, which could cause the crank position sensor to malfunction... If the sensor malfunctions, the vehicle may run roughly, misfire or stall... Toyota Motor Corp. won't say if there have been any reports of injuries or accidents related to the defect... Vehicle owners will be notified of the recall starting next month. Toyota dealers will replace the crank position sensors for free...

DAIMLER VANS RECALL * USA

* South Carolina - Daimler recalls 1,257 Sprinter vehicles over tire pressure mislabeling issue
--- Daimler Vans USA is recalling nearly 1,260 2016 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with reinforced front axles that are labeled with a tire pressure that is too low, the company announced Tuesday... Daimler said that operating the affected vehicles, with low front tire pressure may result in tire damage, increasing the risk of a crash. The label with the incorrect tire pressure is located on the B-pillar... The company has not yet announced the date when it plans to notify affected customers... If necessary, Freightliner Sprinter and Mercedes-Benz dealers will check and replace the tire label at no cost to the customer...

FIAT CHRYSLER recall * USA: 1 million Ram trucks vehicles recalled

* Michigan - More than 1 million Ram trucks recalled due to air bag issue


--- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling approximately 1 million Ram pickups in North America due to a software glitch that could prevent side air bags and seatbelts from deploying during a rollover... The company's U.S. division said Friday that it is aware of one death, two injuries and two accidents that may be related to the problem... After some trucks experience significant underbody impact, a computer module may incorrectly determine that one of its sensors has failed, temporarily disabling the side air bag and seat belt pretensioner, the company said... If the vehicle is turned off and then back on, those restraints become functional again... The company plans to reprogram the software in affected vehicles free of charge. The recall is expected to begin June 23...

VOLVO's TRUCKS RECALL * USA

* NC - Volvo Trucks North America recall 6,000 trucks
--- Volvo Trucks North America is recalling 6,127 of its model year 2013-2017 VNL and VNM trucks and model year 2017 VNX trucks with faulty software to prevent possible contamination of the brake system... The vehicles have incorrect software for controlling the electronic air dryer and that may result in oil and water contaminating the brake system, VTNA said... The recall is expected to begin Feb. 17, and VTNA will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the vehicle control module and replace the air dryer filter, free of charge, the truck maker said...

ISUZU's TRUCKS RECALL * USA:

* California - Potential stuck gas pedal forces recall of 25,000 Isuzu, Chevrolet trucks

--- Isuzu is recalling 25,018 commercial trucks in the U.S. — including Chevrolet branded vehicles — because the accelerator pedal may get stuck under a steel stopper bolt... The truck recall affects 2014-2016 Isuzu NPR and NPR HD. It includes 2016 Chevrolet Low Cab Forward 3500 HD, 4500HD, and 4500XD medium duty trucks... Isuzu issued the recall because if the accelerator pedal becomes stuck, it will remain in full throttle position, creating unintended acceleration... Since the trucks are equipped with a brake override system the driver can try pushing on the brake pedal to help slow down and stop the vehicle, the NHTSA said...

FORD RECALLS * USA: The Super Duty Chassis Cab truck

* Michigan - Ford recalls 400,000 vehicles, including the Super Duty Truck
--- Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 400,000 vehicles in North America, including its Super Duty Chassis Cab truck... The company said no crashes or injuries have been reported for any of the vehicles involved in Ford’s safety recalls issued Wednesday... Ford is recalling approximately 180 Super Duty 6.7-liter diesel Chassis Cab trucks from the 2017 model year because of potential problems with the protective shield on the truck’s fuel conditioning module... In affected vehicles, inadequate adhesion of the fuel shield may allow it to be “dislodged by road debris or water spray,” which could result in a fuel leak... Dealers will replace the fuel conditioning module bottom cover with a metallic protective shield if a problem is found...

* Michigan - Death sparks massive GM recall of Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra trucks
--- General Motors is recalling millions of pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles it has sold recently in the U.S. because a software glitch can prevent the front airbags from deploying in a crash... The automaker said Friday it knows of one death and three injuries linked to the problem... The recall affects 3.64 million vehicles sold in the United States, including the 2015-2017 model year Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado HD; GMC Yukon, Yukon XL and Sierra HD; and Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration... Other affected vehicles include the 2014-2016 model year Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet SS and Spark EV and the 2014-2017 model year Chevrolet Corvette, Trax, Caprice PPV and Silverado 1500; Buick Encore; and GMC Sierra 1500... GM said the sensing and diagnostic module, or SDM, in these vehicles contains a software defect that may prevent the deployment of the front airbags and seat belt pretensioners in certain situations...

--- When Navistar was assembling the Cat Truck for Caterpillar, there was a substantial difference between it and Navistar’s own International PayStar on which the Cat Truck was based. The CT series had a more substantial look and feel, and was decidedly upscale, just as Caterpillar wanted. When Navistar introduced its new HX series early this year, it was as though it was planned to succeed the Cat Truck, even though Navistar people say they didn’t know that Cat was about to cancel their program... So, to the guys who bought Cat Trucks for what they were and for the bragging rights that came with them: Check out the HX, because it’s almost the same vehicle. If “International” isn’t something to brag about, be aware that it’s one of the oldest and proudest names in the automotive industry. And get smug because an HX will cost maybe $10,000 less than a CT would have...

** Illinois -  Navistar recalls 3,952 ProStar trucks


--- Navistar International Corp. is recalling 3,952 ProStar trucks from model years 2014 to 2017 for a defect affecting power to the cab. The medium- and heavy-duty trucks were manufactured between June 11, 2013, and May 19, 2016... “The battery-mounted cube fuse terminal connection on certain ProStar model trucks built with the battery box mounted between the frame rails may possibly break resulting in loss of power to the cab,” according to the recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration... The Lisle, Illinois, truck maker adds that when the cube fuse terminal begins to fail, the lights in the cab could flicker and the gauges could become erratic...

* Michigan -  Ram recalls nearly 1,000 trucks to repair powertrain defect


--- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will recall 889 Ram trucks because of a flaw in the manufacturing of a transfer case – a key component that distributes power in a four-wheel-drive vehicle... The recall affects Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cab trucks mostly manufactured in the latter half of last year.,, The transfer case in these vehicle may have been manufactured with a misshapen main output shaft, creating voids that cause a shaft fracture, according to documents FCA filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The defect could cause the truck to stall, possibly creating a crash... Additionally, the driver may be unable to place the truck in park, increasing the risk of a vehicle rollaway...

TRUCK RECALLS USA * Navistar's - ** PACCAR´s

* Illinois - Navistar recalls 1,200 trucks with defective Cummins Engines

--- Navistar Inc. is recalling 1,191 heavy duty diesel trucks in the U.S. equipped with defective Cummins engines that could increase the risk of a crash... The recall includes 2017 International ProStar, LoneStar, PayStar, HX and 9900 trucks produced between March and April... These vehicles are fitted with Cummins ISX15L engines equipped with a defective electronic system that could short circuit and blow a fuse. The engine could then stall and the driver would not be able to restart the truck, thereby increasing the risk of a collision... The engine can only be restarted once the ECM and fuse are replaced...

FORD's RECALL * USA: Trucks and SUVs

* Illinois - Ford recalls 5,000 Trucks and SUVs to fix driver seat

--- Ford is recalling 5,280 F-150 trucks and other vehicles in the U.S. to fix a seating issue that can increase the risk of an injury... The problem affects 2016 model year versions of the full-size pickup with a manual recline driver’s seat. The recall also includes Explorer sport-utility vehicles... Poorly welded seatback frames may not properly restrain the driver during a collision, thereby increasing the chance of being injured... The recall is expected to begin in August...

-- The Mercedes-Benz Unimog truck is being recalled in Australia again, this time over an issue that could affects the vehicle lighting system... Only a total of five vehicles are affected and the Mercedes-Benz Unimog recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission... The ACCC recall notice advising that the main cabin power supply cable connections may not have been tensioned correctly during production... This may result in loss of power to the cabin and the failure of various systems including lights... This could cause a hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users...

GM's TRUCKS RECALL * USA

* Michigan - GM recalls some 2016 trucks for control arm defect
--- General Motors Co. said Tuesday that it is recalling 4,789 2016 full-size trucks in the U.S. because a front upper control arm can separate from the vehicle... The Detroit automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries resulting from the defect. The recall covers some 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trucks, Suburbans and Tahoes; GMC Sierra 1500 pickups, Yukons and Yukon XLs; and Cadillacs Escalades and Escalade ESVs. A small number of 2017 Silverado early-build trucks are also part of the recall, a GM spokesman said... GM believes fewer than 550 of the recalled vehicles were delivered to customers. The automaker said it will contact affected customers and tell them not to drive their vehicle until the front upper control arm can be replaced. Dealers will tow the vehicle for repairs and also can provide customers with a loaner car, the automaker said... The company said the part can separate from the vehicle “due to a poor quality weld near the control arm bushing.” If the part were to fail, GM said steering could be compromised, increasing the risk of a crash...

DAIMLER's TRUCKS RECALL * USA

* DC - Daimler recalling 3,700 Freightliner Trucks and other vehicles to fix brakes

-- Daimler Trucks North America is recalling 3,691 Freightliner trucks and other vehicles to correct defects that could affect their ability to brake, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported Monday... The manufacturer is recalling 702 Freightliner M2 Business Class, 108SD, 114SD, and Columbia trucks produced between Jan. 6, 2010 and Feb. 29, to fix the rear disk brake caliper... Poorly installed calipers could come into contact with the vehicle’s spring suspension, creating a crash risk... The German auto and truck company also is recalling 2,989 recreational vehicle chassis with a faulty brake activation signal... When combined with a towing device, the brake activation signal could remain active even when the vehicle chassis service brakes are released. The brakes on a towed device could then remain engaged, increasing the risk of an injury and collision...

DAIMLER TRUCKS RECALL * USA

* Oregon - Daimler Trucks North America to recall nearly 9,000 trucks with HVAC units that could overheat

-- Daimler Trucks North America announced that it will voluntarily recall nearly 9,000 model year 2015-2016 Freightliner Cascadia trucks manufactured from March 24, 2014, through Nov. 9, 2015, over the possibility of an overheated connection on Bergstrom Parksmart HVAC auxiliary units... The truck maker said there may be inadequate contact between the electrical connector on the compressor and electrical pins and the overheated connection can increase the risk of a fire... DTNA put the number of trucks potentially involved at 8,865. The recall is expected to begin on May 7, 2016...

VOLVO TRUCKS RECALL * USA: To be placed OOS by inspectors

* DC - DOT says unrepaired recalled Volvos on road to be placed OOS by federal, state inspectors

-- On March 18, FMCSA issued an urgent safety bulletin advising operators and carriers of recalled vehicles to immediately contact Volvo Customer Support before continuing driving operations... The recall affects nearly 20,000 Class 8 motor vehicles, with nearly 16,000 affected trucks in the U.S. ... In what a spokesman said is an unprecedented move — have determined that vehicles subject to Volvo Trucks’ safety recall that have not already received the interim or permanent recall remedy repair specified by Volvo and are still operating are unsafe and should be immediately ordered out-of-service by federal and state roadside safety inspectors... On March 10 Volvo Trucks North America announced the recall of certain model year 2016-2017 VNL, VNX, and VNM trucks manufactured from May 11, 2015, through March 8, 2016. The trucks may have been manufactured without a roll pin on the steering shaft... If the roll pin is missing, the lower steering shaft may disconnect from the junction block. Also, the bolt connecting the upper steering shaft to the lower steering shaft may not have been properly tightened. Either condition can lead to separation of the steering shaft without warning, resulting in a complete loss of steering, which may lead to a crash... DOT officials say about half the vehicles have received temporary repairs or removed from the road thus far...

-- Scania has recalled a small number of R series trucks over problems with the fitted backrests, supplied by a third party... According to an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) statement, the truck maker has raised concerns over the safety standards of 11 vehicles in the event of a crash... Sold nationally from Scania branches and dealers, the company recommends affected vehicles be taken to their closest location for a free-of-charge part replacement...

GM´s RECALLS * USA: 473,000 trucks and SUVs

* Michigan - GM recalling for brake pedal problem


-- General Motors is recalling more than 473,000 trucks and SUVs in the U.S. and Canada because the brake pedals can come loose and fail to work properly... The recall covers certain 2015 and 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD and Chevrolet Tahoe police vehicles... GM says a nut on the brake pedal pivot mechanism can come loose, causing the pedal to loosen and possibly become inoperative... The company says it has no reports of crashes or injuries due to the problem... GM says the recall should begin shortly...
