ALTERNATIVE FUELS * HYDROGEN

* Norway - Hydrogen Powered Hyundai Crosses Europe Using Existing Fuel Stations

Oslo,Norway -Autopia (USA), by Keith Barry -May 4, 2012: -- A team of European drivers have crossed the continent in a pair of hydrogen-powered cars using only Europe’s existing hydrogen fueling infrastructure... The Oslo to Monte Carlo trip hit the record books as the longest a hydrogen-fueled vehicle has ever travelled using only fuel from permanent hydrogen filling stations. Other cars have circumnavigated the globe and crossed North America, but did so with fuel trucks in tow. This team made the 1404 mile journey over the course of five days with a pair of Hyundai iX35 FCEVs, and never once ran out of fuel...

* The Netherlands - Safe hydrogen cars on the way

Delft,The Netherlands -Fleet Europe, by Steven Schoefs -6 May 2012: -- It might sound like the stuff of dreams, but according to Marnix Wagemaker of the Technical University in Delft (the Netherlands) safe hydrogen cars are just a matter of years. Emitting no more than pure water from their exhaust pipes hydrogen cars are a popular R and D-subject with mainly Asian manufacturers. They regard this type of propulsion to be the ultimate ecological solution. But the under pressure storage of the hydrogen is a major drawback for this type of cars: highly explosive and requiring huge infrastructural adaptations to the known fuel network. The Dutch researchers of the TU of Delft and the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam however are convinced that hydrogen doesn’t necessarily needs to be stored under high pressure. They believe a battery-like storage system could do without the high pressure loadings and thus the costly and potentially more dangerous actual systems. Hence their claim that a mass-production of safe hydrogen cars is rather less than a daydream...
