Washington,DC,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by R.G. Edmonson -May 10, 2010: -- In a victory for labor attempts to organize transportation workers, the National Mediation Board said it will now determine a majority in a unionization election based on the votes cast and no longer base the results on a company’s entire workforce... The new rule on railroad and airline employees could have an impact on efforts to organize workers at FedEx, where labor has targeted non-union express workers... The rule could also affect employees at Delta Air Lines and JetBlue, said Edward Wytkind, president of the Transportation Trades Department of the AFL-CIO... The NMB has so far counted all employees of a company among votes in an organization effort, tallying those not casting ballots as votes against the unionization... The Air Transport Association said Monday it would seek judicial review of the NMB’s rule...

TRUCKING JOBS * USA - Are There Any Truck Driving Jobs That Except Past Accidents And Suspensions?

USA - cdlbjobs -January 4, 2010: -- It all depends on the severity of the accidents, and the reason for the suspensions. Always best to be upfront and honest with any company you are approaching for employment. They can see your driving history on your abstract and commercial vehicle operator records anyways...
Comment, by Jane H. -January 4, 2010: -- Many trucking companies will accept past suspensions. Most companies require no more than 2 preventable accidents/incidents, in the past three years... If new to the industry, I would suggest going to a truck stop and looking thru the free trucking mags they have there. They ALL have companies within them, that will accept you as a driver, and/or a new truck driver... Many companies will put you through truck driver training, or do driver training reimbursement, for truck driver schooling you’ve previously taken...

TRUCKING JOBS * USA - Can You Make Money in the Trucking Industry?

Truck drivers earn a generous salary for the level of education required for the job

USA -eHow, by John Hewitt -18 Dec 2009: -- According to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), general heavy freight truck drivers earned a median salary of $18.38 per hour in May 2006. The BLS states that the current overall outlook for truck driver employment is "favorable," although there is high competition for the best-paying truck driver jobs... Career Advancement: Beginning truck drivers usually will not be permitted to drive heavy freight trucks. They will be started on lighter trucks and paid a lower salary likely with fewer available benefits. One easier way for truck drivers to break into the industry is to work as an "extra driver," which means acting as a replacement for a more experienced driver who is indisposed due to medical issues or vacation... Maintaining a good driving record, showing up to work on time and completing jobs on schedule are all effective methods for job advancement within the trucking industry. Attending training courses for more advanced equipment also can open higher-paying job opportunities. Becoming an owner-operator of a truck also can earn a truck driver more money, but requires a substantial initial investment in a vehicle and insurance along with the fact that it requires them to constantly search for new jobs...(Image by Flickr.com, courtesy of futureatlas.com)
