* Sweden - The rigorous quality tests behind the new Volvo FH

Gothenburg,Sweden -Irish Trucker News (Kells,Co. Meath,Ireland ) -22 January 2013: -- The new Volvo FH has been subjected to a range of gruelling quality tests...  The tests that were conducted focus on areas such as the truck's reliability, durability and fuel consumption... This was done at both Volvo Trucks' own laboratories and the company's proving grounds as well as in regular commercial traffic with our field test haulier...During the winter of 2011/2012, the lowest temperature recorded there was -44°C and this ice-cold climate was perfect for testing how the new Volvo FH would behave in such extreme conditions... During the test period, every truck was driven for at least 20,000 kilometres in the freezing cold, where one of the greatest problems was that all the components in the truck - from the hardest material to the electrical system - become brittle. The challenge was to develop components that withstand these ice-cold conditions without failing... Tests of a different kind were conducted at the proving ground in Hällered near Gothenburg in Sweden. A large number of test drivers worked intensively to perform a series of very demanding accelerated endurance tests. This test regime corresponds to 10 years and 1,250,000 kms (775,000 mls) out on the road...


* China - Foton unveils full truck range in Dubai

China/Dubai -Trade Arabia -23 Jan 2013: -- China-based Foton, which manufacturers trucks in partnership with Daimler of Germany, unveiled its full range of light, medium and heavy duty trucks and special-purpose vehicles, at an event in Dubai... Foton is currently engaged in setting up operations in India and Russia... Foton manufactures light, medium and heavy duty trucks, which include tractors, dumpers and platforms. The special-purpose vehicles include oil/water tankers, bulk cement trucks, lorry cranes, municipal use trucks, concrete mixer trucks, concrete pump trucks and shipping container carriers... The Foton-Daimler factory in China, which is a 50-50 partnership between Beiqi Foton and Daimler established in 2009, is one of the first international model plants for trucks, with an annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles, according to the statement...


* China - Dongfeng to tie up with Volvo 

 Beijing,China -Reuters, by Jonathan Standing -Jan 23, 2013: -- Chinese state-owned auto maker Dongfeng Motor Group Co. is set to announce as early as this weekend a strategic alliance with Swedish truck maker Volvo AB, according to a Dongfeng official... The official, who declined to be identified because the information has not been publicly released, said Dongfeng may gain access to Volvo technology, through the deal... Chinese media reports on Tuesday had said the deal is likely to involve a joint venture to produce and market Volvo trucks in China... Dongfeng is a major exporter of heavy trucks to emerging markets, including Africa and South America, and the alliance would help the company further expand its global reach, the official added... Volvo, the world's No.2 truck maker, said in December it would cut back production in North America due to tough conditions...
