* China - Daimler Signs Agreement with Chinese Truck Maker
Beijing,China -Bloomberg/Transport Topics (USA) -16 July 2010: -- Daimler AG signed an agreement with Beiqi Foton Motor Co. on Friday to set up a 6.35 billion yuan ($940 million) venture to make medium and heavy duty trucks in Beijing, as the two seek to boost sales in China... The trucks will bear the Auman nameplate and use engine technology from the Daimler’s Mercedes- Benz unit, with an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles and 45,000 heavy diesel engines... Companies including Daimler, Nissan Motor Co. and General Motors Co. are increasing capacity in China even as sales growth slows, Bloomberg said... Daimler will also start making passenger-vehicle engines at its car-making venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Beiqi Foton’s parent... * The Netherlands - SAF-Holland adds production workers
Luxembourg -Fleet Owner (USA) -Jul 14, 2010: -- Luxembourg-based SAF-Holland SA , a global supplier of systems and components for commercial trucks and trailers has “recorded increasing utilization of its production capacities since the beginning of the year” and so has hired 83 new industrial employees for its plants in Keilberg, Frauengrund and Wörth am Main, Germany... And in North America, over 100 production workers have been added to the company’s workforce since the beginning of the year... According to SAF-Holland, market research institutes maintain a positive outlook for the logistics and commercial vehicles sector in Europe and North America, and due its high market share in these regions, the company expects to benefit from the upturn in the market...
* China - Vehicle sales jump
Beijing,China -Fleet Owner (USA) -Jul 14, 2010: -- The growing economy that is China saw a massive increase in heavy-duty commercial vehicle sales in the first quarter of this year, according to a research report from ACT Research Co. and China’s State Information Center (SIC)... According to the report, China Commercial Vehicle Outlook, growing demand for bulk commodities powered the surge, which totaled 267,500 vehicles sold in the quarter, up 165% from 2009. The forecast adds that continued strong growth is expected in the second quarter before slowing in the third and fourth quarters...
* France - New Renault low-entry RCV
Lyon,France -Waste Management World -14 July 2010: -- Despite offering one of the largest and most comprehensive ranges of trucks in Europe, Renault RI has not produced a successful purpose-built refuse collection vehicle in it's range, since trying - unsuccessfully - to market the plastics-cabbed, low entry Pontecelli, some years ago... Low entry cabs have gained a growing part of the European RCV in recent years, after predictions that moves to 'privatisation' would cut sales to uneconomic levels, as commercial contractors purchased cheaper standard truck chassis... Having discovered that purpose-built low cab RCV chassis delivered better reliability and increased efficiency, many commercial contractors have become aware of potential legal action by injured employees, if the high cab entry steps of standard trucks could be shown to be a contributory factor in workplace injuries... * Canada - Wesport, Volvo to develop biogas, natural gas engines
Vancouver,BC,CAN -Today's Trucking -16 July 2010: -- Westport Innovations is partnering with Volvo Powertrain to develop biogas and natural gas-fueled engines... The company expects to generate revenue on each new natural gas and biogas engine sold... The current natural gas engine development program will result in an engine that will meet future emission requirements and be commercialized according to a mutually agreed timeline... * India - Is now ahead of China in Commercial Vehicles Segment!
New Delhi,India -One India, by Vicky.in -July 20, 2010: ... India toppled China in commercial vehicles sales! ... In India, the sales of commercial vehicles rose 77% in the first five months of 2010 surpassing the 60% growth of commercial vehicles sales in China. Therefore, India leads in the trucks sales race. According to Pawan Goenka, president of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, SIAM, is expecting stronger growth in the segment in the coming months, as the market would be led by new-generation trucks being introduced by several global companies... Mahindra and Mahindra has entered the truck segment with its world truck Navistar. Foreign truck makers like Daimler, Volvo, MAN, Hino Motors and Kamaz Vectra have plunged into the Indian commercial truck market. The competition is heating up between the domestic truck makers and the International truck makers in providing better, durable and easy to maintain trucks... Ashok Leyland’s whole time director Vinod Dasari says that sales are strong, and better infrastructure is expected to result in higher demand for all types of trucks, especially the bigger ones in the 25-49 tonne segment... Also, the ease of availing finance and raise in spending on infrastructure are anticipated to follow in the coming months.
