Tyres * India - Truck makers appeal against dumping duty on Chinese radial ones

Mumbai,India -The Hindu Business Line, by Manu P. Toms -July 13, 2010: -- Truck makers, including Tata Motors, have appealed to the Centre against the anti-dumping duty on bus and truck radial tyres imported from China. Chinese radial tyre makers too have made a similar appeal... The Designated Authority, Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties, recommended the imposition of definitive anti-dumping duty on bus and truck radial tyres from China and Thailand in January 2010, on a petition filed by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association... The domestic tyre industry finds it hard to meet the growing demand for radial tyres from vehicle makers and the replacement market... It is learnt that if the anti-dumping duty on truck radial tyres is lifted, Tata Motors can save at least $40 on a tyre. The anti-dumping duty on tyres from China is in the range of $24 to $90 a tyre... The OEM demand each month might be another one lakh tyres. Tata Motors alone might require about 60,000 radial tyres a month for its medium and heavy commercial vehicles...

* Indian Tyre Shortage Non-Existent, say Tyre Makers

Mumbai,India -Tyre Press -12 July 2010: -- An article printed by India’s DNA indicates that the country’s alleged tyre shortage is actually non-existent. In introducing the topic, DNA comments that while vehicle manufacturers such as Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland have blamed domestic market tyre shortages for their increased reliance upon tyres imported from China, the tyre makers themselves see the situation differently – DNA states that officials from Apollo Tyres, JK Tyres and Ceat all say there is no tyre shortage in India whatsoever. Instead, the issue centres on the vehicle manufacturers’ unwillingness to pay more for domestically produced tyres than they would for those imported from China...
