Overland Park,KS,USA -Transport Topics -12 July 2010: -- YRC Worldwide reconfirmed Monday that its second quarter adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization would be positive, within a range of $35 million to $45 million, as second-quarter tonnage improved... * Texas - Dean Foods, Thermo King testing electric reefer unit

Dallas,TX,USA -Fleet Owner, by Brian Straight -Jul 12, 2010: -- Dean Foods and Thermo King are working together on a prototype all-electric refrigeration system, the companies have announced. The unit, placed into service in March, is being tested at Dean Food’s Dallas-area facility... Based on Thermo King’s TS500 model, the unit is powered through the truck’s alternator using power generated by the engine to supply electrical power. When the vehicle is not running, the unit can be plugged into shore power through a commercial 230-volt outlet. If the truck is turned off and the system is not plugged in to shore power, it does not run... There is no independent engine for the refrigeration unit, meaning there is also no oil, filters or anti-freeze to maintain. They also emit less noise than mechanical refrigeration systems... * Illinois - EBE adds fraud detection to logistics application

East Moline,ILL,USA -Fleet Owner -Jul 12, 2010: -- EBE Technologies has added a fraud detection function to its Logistics Management software package. The program also can help shippers ensure that the contracted carrier is the one who arrives to accept a load... The fraud detection function works within the carrier onboarding module and compares the phone number and address of a carrier completing an online application with the data contained within the FMCSA database and that of whitepages.com. All the data must match before a carrier packet is created and released to the carrier... To ensure the correct carrier arrives to pick up a brokered load, the system uses a rate confirmation, sending notification to the shipper with the carrier information that has been assigned and accepted the load. If a different carrier arrives, the shipper will alert the logistic company and the workflow would trigger an alert to the logistics company... (Image from ebeteams: EBE Tech. headquarter)
