* Germany - Daimler, MAN SE Say World Truck Market May Recover in Two Years

Frankfurt,Germany -Bloomberg/Businessweek, by Alex Webb and Tom Lavell & Robert Valpuesta -July 09, 2010: -- Daimler AG and MAN SE, Europe’s biggest and third-biggest truckmakers, said worldwide sales of heavy vehicles may match figures from before the recession by as early as 2012 as growth is pushed by emerging markets... European manufacturers can speed up their recovery by establishing ties with competitors in countries with growing economies, Andreas Renschler, head of the Daimler Trucks division, said today at a conference in Frankfurt... Brazil’s industrywide truck sales are at a record high and China’s “didn’t collapse at all” during the global financial crisis, MAN Chief Executive Officer Georg Pachta-Reyhofen said at the conference... First-half exports by Germany’s commercial-vehicle makers jumped by 57 percent from a year earlier, while full-year domestic sales of trucks weighing more than 6 tons may rise 5 percent. That compares with a 28 percent drop in German sales of trucks and buses in 2009... MAN’s shares have risen 33 percent this year, while Swedish truckmakers Volvo AB and Scania AG are the best performers on the eight-stock Bloomberg Europe Autos Index...


* Korea - Hyundai launches light trucks in Australia

Seoul,Korea -ATN (Australia), by Gary Worrall -July 1, 2010: -- The worst kept secret in Australian road transport is finally confirmed, with the release of Hyundai’s light duty range of trucks for the Australian market starting on August 2... The Korean manufacturer is targeting the competitive light duty segment with three trucks covering the up to 7.5-tonne gross vehicle mass segment... Opening the batting is the HD45 rated at 4495kg to appeal to drivers with only a car licence... Next in the order is the HD65, a 6.5-tonne GVM which shares the same 3.9-litre engine... The third member of the initial starting squad is the HD75, which gets the same 3.9-litre engine as the HD65 but with slightly different gearing for improved fully laden driving... With the Manufacturer’s List Pricing (MLP) of the Hyundai light duty trucks starting at $49,990 for the HD45, which comes in under its Japanese competitors, the light duty truck market is about to become a lot more interesting... * USA - Allison Transmissions passes the million mark
