Six trucking companies, an airline and the Port of Long Beach make CIO 100 list
Framingham,MA,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by William B. Cassidy -Jun 3, 2010: -- Seven transportation companies and the nation's second-largest container port made the 2010 CIO 100 list recognizing companies that create business value through technological innovation... Six trucking operators — FedEx, YRC Worldwide, Con-way, Old Dominion Freight Line, Pitt Ohio Express and Greatwide Logistics Services — made the list... The truckers were recognized for projects involving data warehousing, business intelligence, customer and process management and mobile and wireless technologies. Some of those projects are saving the companies millions of dollars, CIO reported... Other projects had environmental benefits. The Port of Long Beach, for example, was honored for its use of radio frequency identification technology to track trucks as part of its clean-trucks program, credited with reducing air pollution at the port by 80 percent in one year...
