Safety Trucks * USA - 7 Trucks, 18 Drivers Placed Out Of Service
Greenville,TENN,USA -The Greeneville Sun, by BILL JONES -15 Oct 2009: -- The Tennessee Highway Patrol this morning, concluded "Operation United Stop," a 24-hour truck inspection and terrorism deterrence effort at the I-81 Scales complex in western Greene County... A total of 272 truck drivers were contacted and 95 truck inspections were conducted... Seven trucks were placed out of service for equipment defects, and 18 truck drivers were placed out of service for violations of hours of service regulations, McKenzie said... A total of 62 citations and 14 assessments for penalties totaling $9,022 were issued by troopers," McKenzie said... In addition, 41 K-9 walk arounds (of trucks by drug and bomb-detecting dogs) were performed and 109 radiological sweeps were conducted... (See Video)
* Pennsylvania - State Enforcement Effort Takes 100 Haz-Mat Trucks Out of Service
Harrisburg,PA,USA -PRNewswire/USNewswire -Oct 15, 2009: -- Pennsylvania State Police and enforcement officers from the Public Utility Commission placed 100 trucks out of service and issued 451 traffic citations during an Oct. 7 enforcement effort focusing on commercial vehicles that transport hazardous materials, State Police Commissioner, Frank E. Pawlowski, reported today... The Commercial Motor Vehicle Safe Transportation of Placarded Substances detail, or S.T.O.P.S., inspected 1,252 placarded commercial vehicles during the one-day enforcement effort. In addition to placing vehicles out of service and issuing traffic citations, officers issued 1,059 written warnings for vehicle and driver violations and placed 30 drivers out of service...
