NY,USA -Forbes/AP -4 Apr 2007: -- Pressured in the fourth quarter by weak demand and excess capacity, trucking companies could report first-quarter earnings additionally affected by rising fuel costs and inclement weather... Last year, truckload and less-than-truckload carriers struggled against weak freight demand, slowed by a sluggish economy and weakness in the automotive and housing industries, and an oversupply of trucks, as the industry bought new equipment ahead of stricter emissions regulations this year. Those issues spilled over into the first quarter, but analysts think carriers faced the additional headwinds of higher diesel fuel costs at the end of March and harsh winter weather in February...
