Riga,Latvia -RIA Novosti (Moscow,Russia) -4 Apr 2007: -- Authorities of the Ludza district in Latvia, which borders on Russia, have declared a state of emergency as about 1,500 trucks are piled up at the border, a spokesman for the local administration said Tuesday... Trucks began stretching for many kilometers at the border in Latvia yesterday after Belarus introduced seasonal limitations on the weight of trucks, which pass through the former Soviet republic. Consequently the freight transportation channel has been rerouted through Latvia...
* Belarus - Cargo transit via Belarus doubles over 5 years

Hong Kong,CH -News.gov.hk -April 4, 2007: -- The Import & Export (Amendment) Bill 2007, subject to legislative and funding approval, the Government plans to roll out the system in 2009 and mandate electronic advance cargo information submissions for road cargo after an 18-month transitional period, the Commerce, Industry & Technology Bureau says... With the electronic system, all cross-boundary trucks, except those selected for inspection, will enjoy seamless customs clearance at land boundary checkpoints. The Customs & Excise Department will also have more room to facilitate the passage of transhipment cargo that involves inter-modal transfer...
