India -Forbes (NY,USA), by Robyn Meredith -4 Apr 2007: -- An Indian car may soon earn a parking place in history alongside Ford's Model T, Volkswagen's Beetle and the British Motor Corp.'s Mini, all of which put a set of wheels within reach of millions of customers after they rolled onto the scene. * USA - Bonjour, Godzilla - Toyota, already well on its way to becoming the world’s largest automaker, is on the move in Europe--finally
NY,USA -Forbes, by Jerry Flint -27 Mar 2007: -- Last year, Toyota Motor's Western European sales were 897,000 (Toyota and Lexus), up 10% from 818,000 in 2005. Toyota’s market share climbed to 5.8% of the 26-nation market from 5.4% the year before. The march is continuing: Through February, Toyota’s European sales were 152,000, up 17% from the same period in 2006. The company currently holds a 6.3% stake in Europe... The Japanese juggernaut is making these gains while the competition slips. Sales are down at Volkswagen, DaimlerChrysler, BMW, Renault and Peugeot in the first two months this year...

* Germany - Angry shareholders confront D/C management over Chrysler - Zetsche confirms talks with potential partners over future of US unit
Berlin,Germany -Automotive News, by Jason Stein -4 Apr 2007: -- Shareholders strongly criticized DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche and D/C’s management during the annual shareholder meeting here today... In heated remarks, shareholder after shareholder criticized D/C’s supervisory board for not selling the loss-making Chrysler group... D/C has said it is considering all options, including the possible sale, of Chrysler. But shareholders said the company is not moving fast enough... (See Photo above)

* Germany - Mercedes Car Group sales fall 8.2 percent in March
Berlin,Germany -Reuters/Automotive News -April 4, 2007: --
Unit sales at DaimlerChrysler's Mercedes Car Group premium division fell 8.2 percent in March to 127,000 vehicles, the company said on today... That brought sales in the first quarter to 286,800 units, down 2.8 percent from the year-ago period...

* USA - Japan 3 post gains as Detroit automakers fall
USA -Automotive News, by Dale Jewett -April 3, 2007: -- March's U.S. auto sales results have a familiar look: Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. and American Honda Motor Co. posted gains while General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler saw their numbers drop... Overall, U.S. auto sales in March were up 0.7 percent from a year ago to 1,542,498 units. But for the year to date, sales are down 1.2 percent to 3,889,952 units... The top six automakers ranked like this for the month:
No. 1: GM, down 4.0 percent to 345,418 units.
No. 2: Ford Motor, down 9.0 percent to 263,582 units.
No. 3: Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., up 11.7 percent to 242,675 units.
No. 4: DaimlerChrysler, down 4.1 percent to 228,066 units.
No. 5: American Honda Motor Co., up 11.3 percent to 143,392 units.
No. 6:
Nissan North America, up 7.8 percent to 111,119 units.


* USA - Honda Called Greenest Automaker - Honda and Toyota cleanest, DC dirtiest, says group.

The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) has ranked Honda the Greenest Automaker in theU.S. for the fourth consecutive time... The award is based on a new report, Automaker Rankings 2007: The Environmental Performance of Car Companies, which looks at the emissions of each automaker's entire car and light-truck fleet. This year's analysis included eight automakers that according to UCS make 96 percent of cars and trucks sold in the U.S... The UCS award goes to the company with the lowest overall production of both smog-forming emissions and global-warming (carbon dioxide) emissions over its entire U.S. fleet...

* China - Will Beijing enforce pollution standards?
Beijing,China -Automotive News, by Alysha Webb -4 Apr 2007: -- ... Quality of life is not something the Chinese government considered much in the past in its headlong rush to develop. The creation of a burgeoning auto industry was part of that drive... Now, the government is trying to do something about the pollution, which creates opportunities for suppliers of emissions-control technology. Foreign firms currently lead the way in technologies such as engine management systems and turbo chargers that can reduce fuel consumption and emissions... Beijing's emission standards are among the most rigorous in the country. The standards used in China are very close to European standards. But it is impossible to enforce because of the huge number of older-model, non-compliant cars already on the roads...

* USA - Ford may shake up sales unit
Detroit,Mich,USA -The Detroit News, by Daniel Howes -April 04, 2007: -- Three months into a new year, Ford Motor Co. is still struggling to hit lowered sales targets, meaning a shake up of its sales and marketing operations may not be far off... The automaker's top North American sales executive, Cisco Codina, is rumored to be in jeopardy, sources familiar with the situation tell me, but CEO Alan Mulally told lieutenants as recently as Tuesday evening on the sidelines of the New York auto show that he's "not considering" personnel moves "at this time"... Which means Mulally supports Codina and Americas President Mark Fields, the two most directly responsible for Ford hitting U.S. sales targets, until he doesn't...
