* USA - Animal fat: the next big thing in biofuels?
USA -Land Line Magazine/The Associated Press -Jan 3, 2007: -- Up until now, most of the talk about biodiesel has centered on either soybean oil or used restaurant oils. But soon, animal fats could make up a significant portion of the nation's alternative fuel supply... Recently, chicken giant Tyson Foods announced it had created a new business unit called Tyson Renewable Energy. The division will focus on converting the waste fat from the company's food production into alternative fuels such as biodiesel... Tyson's plants produce about 2.3 billion pounds of chicken fat every year - or about 300 million gallons of fat that could be converted to fuel...
* Canada - Pushing for B2 biodiesel blend by 2012
Ottawa,CAN -Land Line Magazine -Jan 3, 2007: -- Diesel fuel in Canada will be blended with a minimum of 2-percent renewable biodiesel by 2012, if federal environment officials get their way.. The measure also includes a mandate for a minimum of 5-percent ethanol in gasoline... Biodiesel will be put through the rigors of testing over the road in Alberta, a province of prairie and mountains where extreme climates can be found... The Alberta demonstration project will help the Canadian General Standards Board generate standards to be used in the rest of the country, according to environmental officials...
