*Japan - Toyota set to surpass General Motors in vehicle sales
USA -The Associated Press -Dec 29, 2006: -- After 81 years as the world's biggest car manufacturer, General Motors is on the brink of losing that title to Toyota... According to , Toyota expects to sell about 9.3 million vehicles next year, while GM is expected to sell about 9.2 million... Like Ford, GM has announced plant closings and big employee buyout programs as it struggles with declining domestic sales...


* USA - GM sales rose 10% in December, but fell 9% for 2006
Tulsa,OK,USA -Reliable Plant Magazine -3 Jan 2006: -- General Motors dealers in the United States delivered 341,327 vehicles in December, an increase of 10 percent (43,771) compared with November, but a reduction of 9.6 percent on a sales-day adjusted basis compared with a strong year-ago December... GM's total annual U.S. sales of 4.1 million vehicles in 2006 were down 9 percent compared with last year's 4.5 million, due to planned reductions in daily rental and other marginally-profitable sales...
