* Coal trucks to get no more permits to exceed weight limits
FRANKFORT,Ky,USA -EASTERN KENTUCKY, by Lee Mueller -Jan. 30, 2006: Transportation officials today stopped issuing permits that allowed coal trucks with extra axles to exceed the state weight limits on Eastern Kentucky roads... The decision, announced after highway officials met with members of the Kentucky Department of Vehicle Enforcement, will end a little-known exemption that should have never been issued, said Doug Hogan, a spokesman for the the Transportation Cabinet...

* London Plans to Fine Polluting Trucks in Bid for Cleaner Air
Ljondon,UK -Bloomberg -Jan. 31. 2006: London plans to slap fines of as much as 1,000 pounds ($1,772) a day on polluting trucks in a bid to improve air quality... Starting in 2008, trucks made before 2002 that aren't fitted with pollution filters such as diesel particulate traps would face the fine, Mayor Ken Livingstone said today. Cars wouldn't be subject to the rules... The city estimates that two-thirds of trucks that pass through London will be new enough to be unaffected by the rules. The other third, or 60,000 vehicles, will have to pay a daily charge or face the 1,000 pound fine...

* The Ontario Trucking Association condemns Toronto plan to ban trucks during rush hour
