TRUCKS' POLLUTION * India: 20% cutback in vehicles entering the city
* New Delhi - Number of trucks entering Delhi dropped by nearly 50 per cent
-- Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) yesterday said that the the number of trucks entering the national capital had observed a considerable drop. Assembled along with the Delhi and NCR states' government, private and app-based cab operators before Supreme Court's review of the ban on diesel vehicles in Delhi, EPCA cited the two-fold hike in the environment compensation charge (ECC) that lead to a decline of trucks entering Delhi... According to statistics, the fall in the number was in the range of 40 - 50 per cent. With that said, the data and statistics quoted by EPCA are yet to be verified by an independent study... Interestingly, a report filed by EPCA in February showed that the doubled ECC resulted in almost 20% cutback in the number of commercial vehicles entering the city as well as a major 35% plunge in trucks' particulate matter load... The Supreme Court that convened yesterday to review the ban on registration of diesel vehicles with engine capacity of 2000cc ordered the continuation of the first-of-its-kind ban till the next review on 9 April, 2016...
