With its two Chinese joint ventures, Shanghai Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen, the Group announced a very strong performance in 2012 with 2.81 million (2011: 2.26 million, up 24.5 percent) vehicles delivered to customers in mainland China and Hong Kong... With a total of 2.15 (2011: 1.72) million units delivered the Volkswagen brand reported a year-on-year increase of 24.8 percent...

Shanghai,SH,China -Automotive World -14 Jan 2013: -- Supported by unprecedented demand for all of their major brands, General Motors and its joint ventures sold a record 2,836,128 vehicles in China in 2012. Sales increased 11.3 percent from 2011... General Motors has 12 joint ventures, two wholly owned foreign enterprises and more than 35,000 employees in China. GM and its joint ventures offer the broadest lineup of vehicles and brands among automakers in China. Passenger cars and commercial vehicles are sold under the Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Jiefang, Opel and Wuling brands. In 2012, GM sold more than 2.8 million vehicles in China. It has been a sales leader among global automakers in the market for several years...
* Russia - Ford sales in Russia up 11 per cent in 2012; Focus, Kuga and Transit achieve record sales in December
Himki,Moscow,Russia -Automotive World (UK) -15 Jan 2013: -- Ford Sollers today confirmed that Ford vehicle sales in Russia increased by 11 per cent in 2012, with 130,815 units sold in total. Ford Focus sales were up by 12 per cent last year, making it the best-selling model in the C-segment segment. Last year also saw significant growth for Ford in the Sports Utility Vehicle and commercial vehicle segments: Kuga sales were up 45 per cent, Explorer sales tripled; and Transit was up 56 per cent... December also marked a record month for the latest generation of Focus, Kuga and Transit, achieving their best-ever monthly sales...
* Germany - Opel may move up end of production at German plant
Berlin,Germany -Associated Press/The Detroit News -January 22, 2013: -- General Motors Co. is pressing employees in Germany to agree on a turnaround plan for its struggling European unit, warning if there is no deal it would end car production at one of its German plants two years earlier than planned... Opel announced last month it plans to stop producing cars at the plant in Bochum, in northwestern Germany, at the end of 2016 when it stops making its current Zafira model. It has been negotiating with employee representatives in the country on its turnaround plan... Opel, like several other mass-market car manufacturers on the continent, has been struggling amid economic gloom across Europe and overcapacity in the auto industry. Its turnaround plan envisions cost cuts, new models and efforts to win new export sales...
* Germany - Daimler Considering Buying Minority Stake in BAIC Car Unit
Frankfurt,Germany -The WSJ OnLine (USA), by Eyk Henning -January 11, 2013: -- German luxury car maker Daimler AG is weighing up the purchase of a minority stake in the passenger car unit of BAIC Group as the Chinese company prepares to list the unit on the Hong Kong stock exchange, several people familiar with the matter said Friday... Daimler could buy a stake of around 10% in the course of the initial public offering, one of these people said... A spokesman for Daimler said the company doesn't comment on market speculation. Daimler and BAIC formed a sales and distribution joint venture late last year, aimed at strengthening Daimler's Chinese operations... BAIC Group, China's fifth-largest auto maker by sales, said last year that the company plans to raise about 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) through the listing...
* India - Hindustan Motors to demerge its Chennai car plant
Kolkata,India -The Economic Times, by Anuradha Himatsingka -Jan 10, 2013: -- C K Birla controlled Hindustan Motors (HM) has decided to demerge and transfer its Chennai car plant manufacturing premium Mitsubishi passenger vehicles as a going concern to its fully owned subsidiary, Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation (HMFC)... HM board met in New Delhi on Thursday and approved the company's proposal to restructure itself...
