* Michigan - Chrysler plans bigger stake in 

 Auburn Hill,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Melissa Burden -November 10, 2012: -- Chrysler Group LLC said Friday it plans an announcement about "new investments and jobs in Southeast Michigan" on Thursday at its Mack I Engine Plant in Detroit... Chrysler's Mack I Engine Plant produces the 4.7-liter V-8 engine that powers the Ram 1500 pickup. It employs 144 hourly workers, and 43 salaried workers are shared between two plants... Chrysler said in July it was considering investing nearly $198 million in the Mack I Engine plant, a move that would create as many as 250 jobs at the factory...



* California - Tesla's $102,000 battery-powered model S surges like a supercar

Fremont, California,USA -Bloomberg News/The Detroit News, by Jason H. Harper -November 10, 2012: -- The Tesla Model S is an all-electric car with incredible range... I stepped into the $92,000, battery-powered sedan with low expectations. By the time I exited, I was pretty sure I'd just experienced the future of the automobile...  This is the Palo Alto, Calif.-based company's second car. It was a stretch to even call the first model, the $100,000-plus Roadster, a true production car since it began life as a Lotus convertible. Tesla turned it into an electric vehicle (EV), but it looked like a Frankenstein-like kit car, and the build quality was terrible...


* California - Toyota to sell Mazda-built car 
Torrance,CAL,USA -The Detroit News, By Christine Tierney -November 10, 2012: -- Mazda Motor Corp. will produce a car based on one of its own models for Toyota Motor Corp. at a factory it's building in Mexico, the two companies said Friday... Toyota will sell the car, a Toyota-brand subcompact based on the Mazda2, mostly in North America. Mazda will start producing it in the summer of 2015, turning out 50,000 cars a year... The production agreement reflects the difficulties of smaller Japanese brands in the U.S. market, even as Toyota and other leading Japanese automakers are gaining ground... Toyota is rebounding in the U.S. after a series of setbacks and natural disasters. It has 14 assembly and components plants in North America but also produces Toyota Camry sedans at a Subaru plant in Indiana owned by Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd....

* Michigan - Chrysler recalling 920K Jeeps

Auburn Hills,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -November 10, 2012: -- Chrysler Group LLC said Friday it is recalling nearly 920,000 Jeep SUVs to fix a faulty electrical part after more than 100 reports of unintended air bag deployments... The Auburn Hills automaker said Friday it is recalling 744,922 SUVs in the United States, including the 2002-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-03 Jeep Liberty... The recall also covers 49,430 vehicles in Canada, 21,828 in Mexico and 103,465 outside North America... Chrysler said it has reports of 215 inadvertent air bag deployments, causing 81 minor injuries. Of the deployments, 126 were in Jeep Libertys; 89 involved the Grand Cherokee...
