* Germany - Ex-execs of truckmaker MAN investigated for bribery-prosecutor 

 Berlin,Germany -Reuters, by Christiaan Hetzner and David Cowell -Sep 5, 2012: -- Trial evidence implicates the former chief executive of MAN SE, Hakan Samuelsson, and the ex-head of finance, Karlheinz Hornung. Both resigned in 2009 in connection with bribery scandal... MAN SE forced to pay 150.6 mln eur in fines at the time... MAN SE is majority controlled by Germany's Volkswagen, the third largest carmaker in the world... 


* Italy - XL version added to Fiat Professional Doblò van

Following on from last year's launch of the Doblò Work Up, the XL is designed to further broaden the appeal of the Doblò Cargo commercial vehicle range... The van's combination of a long wheelbase and high roof provides a load volume of 5m3 and a payload of 1,000kg... The new Doblò XL Cargo versions are powered by a choice of three Euro 5 turbodiesel engines... Combi versions will be available with the 2-litre MultiJet 135bhp only...


* UK - Debut for mia U urban electric panel van

Oldham,UK -Transport Engineer -7 Sept 2012: -- Electric commercial vehicle supplier ePower Trucks has launched a battery-powered mini van, measuring 1.64m wide and 3.19m long... The 'mia U' is a compact panel van, designed for urban transport and delivery applications, with a tight turning circle, a range of up to 100km (62 miles), and a top speed of 100km/h (62mph)... Power comes courtesy of a 12kW/h battery pack, which takes five hours to charge and costs less than 1p per km in 'fuel'. The vehicle is compatible with standard EV charging points offering 220V/16A charging... The lithium ion phosphate batteries can also be semi-charged, and a 10-minute charge will give the vehicle an additional 8km of range. The batteries are warranted for three years or 50,000km, and the vehicle is warranted for two years...


* India - Daimler Trucks sales surging in Asia, NAFTA

Worli,Mumbai,India -Motoring/Reuters, by Hendrik Sackmann -September 8, 2012: -- Truck sales by industry leader Daimler were up 23 percent in the first seven months of the year, thanks to strong demand in Asia and North America for its Freightliner and Fuso vehicles, Daimler Trucks chief executive Andreas Renschler told Reuters...  Its January-July sales rose to 268,344 trucks, as volumes in Asia and the North American Free Trade Association (NAFTA) region rose 52 percent and 33 percent respectively. Sales elsewhere fell 8 percent. Asia now accounts for four out of every 10 trucks Daimler delivers...


* India - Low R&D spend threatens auto parts makers' ambitions

New Delhi,India -Reuters/Deccan Chronicle -September 8, 2012: -- From Daimler trucks in Germany to tractors in Brazil, Rohit Saboo's Indian automotive parts are making their way into vehicles all over the world. But as he scales up exports to compensate for slowing growth at home, a lack of spending on innovation is undermining his sales pitch. India's $43 billion auto components industry is increasingly targeting overseas markets for growth, building on its low costs and its experience supplying a world-class domestic market.India's auto component industry, which blossomed in the 1980s as a result of investment from international carmakers such as Suzuki Motor Corp, has boomed further in the past decade due to rapid growth in domestic car sales and capacity expansions... That knowledge base, plus low labour and material costs, is attracting overseas business. Volkswagen Group doubled its sourcing of auto components from India to 700 million euros this year, but maintaining that growth will depend on innovation...
