* USA - Used truck numbers improve in July, ACT reports

Columbus.IND,USA -The Trucker News Services -29 Aug 2012: -- In what may be an unprecedented event, all the month-over month comparisons — volume, price, miles, and age — for all weight groups of used trucks improved in July, according to the market update in the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research... “Up until a few months ago, most dealers cited a lack of inventory as the primary factor holding them back from selling more units,” said Steve Tam, vice president-commercial vehicle sector with ACT. “As if on cue, meaningful amounts of inventory started showing up in some markets” ...


* USA - ACT Research: Trailer orders weak in July 
 Columbus,IND,USA, Ind. -Truck News (CAN) -Aug 23, 2012: -- Keeping in line with seasonal fluctuations, July posted weak order totals for the US trailer industry at 14,500 new orders. Orders were down 5.9% month-over-month, according to the latest figures in ACT Research’s State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers report... Frank Maly, director of commercial vehicle transportation with ACT, noted that confidence and availability of funds are at the centre of the pullback by credit buyers, impacting ongoing trailer order demand...


 * Michigan - GM reports full-size pickup sales up 6% in August 
 Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Melissa Burden -September 5, 2012: -- General Motors Co. said Tuesday that full-size pickup sales rose 6 percent in August from a year ago and 31 percent from July, positive momentum as it works to sell stockpiled trucks built to cover plant downtime related to all-new 2014 pickups... GM said full-size truck inventory increased in August to 249,411 units, compared with 238,165 in July. The carmaker had a 122-day supply as of Aug. 31, down from a 136-day supply at the end of July... Both figures are in line with the automaker's plan to carry higher-than-normal truck inventory to compensate for downtime related to the launch of the all-new trucks, said Kurt McNeil, vice president of U.S. sales operations for GM... 


* Canada - Vehicle makers announce August sales numbers

Toronto,ONT,CAN -CarPages.ca, by Ian Palmer -September 6, 2012: -- Canadian vehicle makers have started to roll out their sales figures for the month of August. What follows is a summary of how they performed.

* Ford Motor Company of Canada‘s announced strong sales with increases of 13 per for the Escape, F-150, with 30 per cent increase. And the Explorer, which saw a 22 per cent increase. 
* Chrysler announced its 33rd consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth, representing the longest sales streak in the company’s history. 
* Honda: Combined August sales of 13,663 units by the Honda and Acura divisions of Honda Canada represented a 44 per cent increase over last year’s sales. 
* Subaru announced record August results as sales climbed to 2,680 units, up 43.9 per cent over the same month last year. 
* Hyundai Auto announced sales of 11,717 units in August, a new record for the month and an increase of 1.8 per cent as compared to the same period last year. 
* Mercedes-Benz Canada and its national dealer network reported that the company retailed a grand total of 2,493 Mercedes-Benz and smart units in August. This represented an increase of 8.4 per cent for the month, and boosted overall growth for the group to 9.7 per cent with 23,399 units delivered in 2012. 
* Mazda announced sales for August 2012, posting the fourth consecutive month of growth with a total of 6,772 vehicles sold, representing a 4 per cent increase over August 2011. 
* Toyota Canada‘s strong summer sales continued in August, with a new record for trucks across all brands, up 42.4 per cent to 8,164 (4th straight month of record sales) and strong sales of smaller vehicles such as the Toyota RAV4 and Scion models. 
* Kia concluded the month of August with record performance nationally achieving its best August in its 13-year history with 7,682 new vehicles sold, contributing to a 32.4 per cent growth when compared to August 2011. 
* GM Canada: Despite a decrease in year-over-year sales, GM posted gains in the highly-contested compact and crossover markets popular with Canadians. 
* Volkswagen Canada: Total sales of 5,782 made this the most successful August ever for Volkswagen Canada, announced. This represented a 34.4 per cent increase over sales from the same month last year (4,302).
