* Michigan - Ford tops U.S. rivals in turbocharged engines. Automaker on track for 800,000 turbo models in 2013

Dearborn,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Karl Henkel -August 23, 2012: -- Ford Motor Co. has trumpeted its development of hybrid powertrains and electric vehicles. But at the same time, the Dearborn automaker is showing there are still ways to wring better fuel economy out of smaller gasoline engines while maintaining a powerful punch... Ford's popular EcoBoost engines have made the Dearborn automaker the leader in North American turbocharged engine production. Ford is producing nearly twice as many vehicles with turbocharged engines as its domestic rivals, General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC...  Ford is on target to produce about 800,000 2013 models with turbos, about 60 percent more than in 2012...

LLC on Wednesday at Gateway Industrial Center wasn't just about celebrating a new auto supplier...   It was to celebrate the opening of a minority-owned auto supplier that could hire as many as 1,500 employees within two years and inhabits a previously vacant structure within city limits...


* Michigan - Chevy plans improved Cruze. Next-generation car's platform might include sedan, coupe or van

Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News. by Melissa Burden and Karl Henkel -August 24, 2012: -- General Motors Co.'s next-generation Chevrolet Cruze will likely be one of the automaker's first vehicles to be built on an upcoming new platform, the Detroit automaker confirmed Thursday... GM spokesman Terry Rhadigan said the new platform, known internally as D2XX, will replace the existing Delta global platform for compact cars... The current-generation Cruze is built at GM's Lordstown Assembly Plant near Youngstown, Ohio, on the Delta platform...

* Indiana - Mazda bows out in Flat Rock. Ford to take control of production, invest $550M in plant

Flatrock River,St.Paul,IND,USA -The Detroit News, by Bryce G. Hoffman -August 24, 2012: -- The last Mazda is expected to roll off the assembly line in Flat Rock today as the Japanese automaker hands the keys to the plant back to its one-time parent, Ford Motor Co... Known as AutoAlliance International, the plant has been run as a joint venture between Ford and Mazda since 1992, producing the Mazda6 sedan and the Ford Mustang muscle car... Workers will mark the end of Mazda production with a small ceremony inside the plant today, but neither automaker is keen to draw attention to the event...

* Michigan - 2012 Chevrolet Sonic: Recall Alert

Dearborn,MICH,USA -The Car Connection, by Suzanne Kane -Aug 27, 2012: -- General Motors is conducting a safety recall of certain 2012 model year Chevrolet Sonic subcompact cars to fix problems with windshield wiper reservoirs... A notice in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site lists the number of vehicles potentially affected at 44,658. Affected vehicles were built from May 5, 2011 and February 24, 2012... At issue is the windshield wiper washer hose that may separate from the windshield washer fluid reservoir... This decreases driver visibility and increases the risk of a crash...


* DC - Suzuki recalls over 100,000 Forenzas, Renos for headlight failure
Washington,DC,USA -NY Daily News, by CLARKE BOWLING -August 22, 2012: -- Suzuki is recalling over 100,000 Forenza and Reno cars, citing possible headlight failure. Affected models are 2004-2006 Forenzas and 2005-2006 Renos... A wiring system malfunction could cause overheating and a either partial or total laws of low- and high-beam function, the automaker announced in a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration...
