* TransCore: Holiday rush bolsters reefer rates in US
Portland,ORE,USA -Truck News (CAN) -Dec 1, 2011: -- As refrigerated food products were rushed to market prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, spot market freight availability for refrigerated vans climbed 12%. Reefer rates rose 1.9% nationwide for the seven days ending Nov. 23, according to TransCore's Truckload Rate Index. Reefer rates and freight volume are expected to remain high through mid-December, officials said... Van freight volume increased 1.6%, but rates slipped 0.2% nationwide on the spot market compared to the previous week. In a week where van rates for major markets were flat to down, Memphis proved to be the exception, with a 2.5% increase in rates on outbound van lanes... Flatbed rates showed the greatest volatility of the three main trucking transportation modes, as rates slipped 0.7% on an 8.3% decline in freight availability, compared to the prior week. Dallas showed the greatest swing as flatbed rates slid 3.6%, following unusually high rates during the previous week...
* FTR: Trucking conditions decline in October
Nashville,IND,USA -Truck News (CAN) -Dec 2, 2011: -- FTR's Trucking Conditions Index (TCI) declined to a reading of 3.4 in October. The environment for truckers as measured by the TCI softened primarily due to further delay in the issuance of revised Hours-of-Service regulations... FTR is projecting the TCI to increase as capacity conditions tighten, but the peak has been moved back from April to October of next year, reflecting the regulatory delay. The Trucking Conditions Index is a compilation of factors affecting trucking companies and has remained in positive territory for the past eight months. Any reading above zero indicates an adequate trucking environment with readings above 10 a sign that volumes, prices and margin are in a good range for trucking companies...
* N.A.F.T.A.: Surface transportation soars 13.8% in September
Washington,DC,USA -Truck News (CAN) -Dec 2, 2011: -- Trade using surface transportation between Canada, the US and Mexico was 13.8% higher in September than in September 2010, totalling $77.7 billion, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the US Department of Transportation... BTS reported that the value of US surface transportation trade with Canada and Mexico in September rose 35.7% in two years from September 2009 and 83.0% when compared to September 2001... In September, 85.6% of US trade by value with Canada and Mexico moved via land, 9.8% moved by vessel, and 4.5% moved by air...
