* Mercedes-Benz Actros is 2012 International Truck of the Year!

Stuttgart,Germany -Indian Car Bikes, by Tushar Kelshikar -November 26, 2011: -- The Mercedes-Benz Actros has been named the International Truck of the year for 2012. The Actros is the first truck that meets the requirements of EURO VI norms. In EURO V-spec, the Actros uses 7 percent less fuel while the EURO VI model reduces fuel consumption by 4 percent. The new Actros gets an innovative rear axle guide, a new steering system for precise response and a wider and stiffer frame... Customers get to choose from four different engines depending upon the specific needs for the job. The engine outputs range from 421 bhp to 510 bhp. The Actros also gets Mercedes’ PowerShift 3 Automatic transmission and other driving programs all meant to improve the driving experience and reduce fuel consumption...  The multi-functional steering wheel to adds to driver comfort and ease of access...


* France - Renault Kangoo Z.E., Van of the Year

Lyon,France -Fleet Europe, by Tim Harrup -25 Nov 2011: -- The 100% electric Renault Kangoo has been elected ‘International Van of the Year’ by a jury of 22 European journalists specialising in utility vehicles. The prize was handed over during the opening evening event of the 14th ‘Trailer’ exhibition held in Belgium...  The Renault Kangoo Z.E. came in ahead of the Iveco Daily, Fiat Ducato and Volkswagen Caddy. It is the Z.E.’s third recognition, having already picked up prizes in Denmark and Ireland...  The vehicle can be distinguished by the ‘electric’ logo on its side and front...


* Germany - Daimler sees material growth in Japan truck market

Franfurt,Germany -Reuters -Nov 30, 2011: -- Daimler, the world's largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles, expects the truck market in Japan to see material growth in the coming years driven by reconstruction efforts following March's catastrophic earthquake...      "The pace of the economic recovery here is impressive," Daimler Trucks chief, Andreas Renschler, told reporters at the Tokyo Motor Show...  The rebound also helped lift output at its Japanese unit Mitsubishi Fuso, which builds in Kawasaki,  the Canter light duty truck, Daimler's best-selling truck in its entire model range...  The Daimler Trucks chief underlined the importance of Fuso in its brand portfolio, explaining the Japanese subsidiary will provide the cabs, chassis, engines and transmissions for the new BharatBenz brand of light and medium-duty trucks in India...


* Japan - Clean power rules Tokyo Motor Show

Leading the Japanese manufacturers in alternative power options at the show is Mitsubishi Fuso Trucks, part of the Daimler Truck Group and the center of Daimler’s hybrid technology development. Fuso announced the commercial availability of its Canter Eco Hybrid and unveiled an over-the-road heavy-duty hybrid concept, the Fuso Super Great Eco Hybrid. * Sweden - Volvo to ditch aero engines for truck business

Gothenburg,Sweden -Construction Week on Line, by Stephen White -Nov 28, 2011: -- Volvo is planning on selling Volvo Aero, its aero-engine subsidiary, to focus on heavy trucks and construction equipment. The sell-off would be the biggest shift in direction for the Swedish manufacturer for a decade... Volvo is the world's second-largest maker of heavy trucks behind Daimler AG, and the company also sells industrial and marine engines as well as buses. The sell-off would be the biggest shift in direction for the Swedish manufacturer since the company split off its passenger car division a decade ago... According to Volvo, divesting the business would help streamline the company although it is seeking a “reasonable price” for the asset...


* Germany - New Automotive Krone Mega Liner

It proposes an optimized timing of cargo and load times reduced. Thus, the manufacturer announced that the opening and closing the side cover can be carried out in 180 seconds. The manufacturer uses this system for quick-sheeting pneumatically 'Easytarp'. This system has only four locking points (instead of 25 usually)...


* Africa / Kenya: Toyota to Assemble Hilux Pickups Locally

Assembling the vehicles in Kenya would lower the duty paid for imported vehicles, which would also reduce their overall cost per unit in the country making it more affordable... Currently enjoying 26 per cent market share, the auto dealer which is a subsidiary of Japan-based Toyota car maker also wants to start importing Hino Trucks in the country... By selling the Hino trucks, the firm would be seeking a piece of the booming public transport and construction industry where these trucks are in demand...
