* Sweden - Volvo Aims to Boost Operating Margin With Truck-Unit Overhaul

Gothenburg,Sweden -Bloomberg, by Tom Lavell and Robert Valpuesta -November 08, 2011:  -- Volvo AB, the world's second-largest maker of commercial vehicles, said a reorganization of its truck business should eventually boost the company's operating margin by 3 percentage points...   Volvo's Chief Executive Officer Olof Persson, wants the manufacturer to be at the top of the heavy- equipment industry in terms of operating margins, shifting the company's focus to profitability from sales growth. Volvo, the maker of Mack trucks in North America and Renault trucks in Europe, announced a reorganization of the heavy-duty vehicle business on Oct. 4 along geographic regions rather than brands...



* Germany - Volkswagen Keeping Truck Alliance Options Open After Raising MAN SE Stake

Wolfsburg,Germany -Bloomberg, by Andreas Cremer - Nov 9, 2011: -- Volkswagen AG, Europe’s largest carmaker, is keeping “all options open” to create the region’s biggest commercial-vehicle alliance after completing the purchase of a majority stake in MAN SE...  A move to integrate MAN with Scania AB, which VW also controls, will save at least 200 million euros ($275 million) annually, the carmaker said in a statement today...  VW’s takeover of MAN is the final twist in a fight for control of the two makers of commercial vehicles that started in September of 2006 when MAN made a hostile bid for Scania that VW eventually blocked...  The German automaker received the final approval of its takeover bid on Nov. 3 from Chinese antitrust authorities following clearance by the European Union in September...  VW’s voting rights in Scania will increase to 89.2 percent from 71.8 percent because a stake in the Swedish truckmaker held by MAN is now legally attributable to VW as well...  A MAN-Scania combination would surpass Gothenburg, Sweden- based Volvo and Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler AG in Europe. MAN and Scania together had 30 percent of the region’s heavy- truck market last year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. Volvo and Daimler each had 21 percent...
