* Sweden - Scania’s new global engine range ready for the future

Södertälje,Sweden -HGV (UK) -November 4, 2011: -- Scania is taking the final steps towards a global engine platform based on the latest technology for all markets and for all emission standards... Customer benefits include enhanced robustness, performance and fuel economy, as well as easier access to parts and servicing via Scania’s global network... The engines are manufactured at Scania’s factories in Europe and South America, using the same production methods and interchangeable parts and components... As announced earlier this year, the development of the new engine generation and the technology to meet future emission legislation took more than five years and involves costs for Scania of approximately SEK 10 billion...


* India - Daimler to enter Indian truck market to challenge Tata Motors  and Ashok Leyland
Mumbai,India -The Economics Times, by Ketan Thakkar -Nov 4, 2011: -- German automaker Daimler has lined up dozens of trucks that it will launch in India starting next year to challenge the dominance of Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland in the country's lucrative truck market... The world's biggest truck maker, which plans to launch its heavy vehicles under the Bharat Benz brand in India, will showcase its entire range at the Auto Expo in Delhi in January. It plans to have a complete range of trucks from 6 tonnes to 49 tonnes for India and will roll out the first product by June-August 2012...


* India - Ashok Leyland reports 7.76 decline in profits in Q2

Chennai,Tamil Nadu,India -Wheels Unplugged -4 Nov 2011:  --  The major truck maker Ashok Leyland has reported a decline of 7.76 percent in net profits at Rs 154.08 crore in second quarter due to the sharp rise in interest costs and higher depreciation... It was reported that the net sales for the quarter ended September 30, 2011 rose 14 per cent to Rs 3,094.57 crore, over the corresponding quarter last year. Interest costs for the quarter rose 59 per cent to Rs 62.69 crore, while depreciation was up 34 per cent at Rs 85.93 crore... According to reports, during the second quarter, Ashok Leyland's total sales dipped 4 per cent to 23,628 units (from 24,589 units in the previous corresponding quarter). For the six months ended September 30, 2011, net profit dipped 17 per cent to Rs 240 crore, while net sales rose 10 per cent to Rs 5,590 crore. The reports also mentioned that in the six months period (April-September 2011), Ashok Leyland's total sales dipped 7 per cent to 42,905 units from 45,989 in the corresponding period the previous year...


* Germany - Truck maker MAN says profits down

Munich,Germany -9 News (New Brisbane,Australia)/AAP -Nov 4 2011: -- German truck maker MAN says profits fell in the third quarter as the looming economic slowdown began to affect business... MAN said in a statement that its bottom-line profit fell by 9.0 percent to 171 million euros ($236 million) in the period from July to September... Third-quarter sales were up 7.0 percent at 4.034 billion euros while incoming orders rose 10 percent to 4.096 billion euros...


* Irak - German truck maker MAN in $14m Iraq venture

Baghdad,Irak -Arab News/REUTERS -Nov 4, 2011: -- German truck and bus maker MAN has signed a 10 million euro ($14 million) deal with Iraqi firm Numoor Al-Bararry to manufacture commercial trucks in Baghdad, the managing director of MAN’s representative in Iraq said...  Iraq is trying to revive its manufacturing industry and needs investment in all sectors following years of war and economic sanctions...  Most of the country’s dilapidated factories remain idle almost nine years after the US-led invasion...  Some were looted while others are located in areas that are still considered unsafe... 


* India - AMW to launch 16-tonne tipper; more in the offing


Bhuj,Gujarat,India -The Hindu Business, by M. Ramesh -Nov. 4, 2011: -- Truck maker Asia Motor Works is all set to introduce a 16-tonne tipper in the market, which it will do at the Excon exhibition in Bangalore on November 23...  AMW, a company blessed by the Essar Group, has been selling trucks in the heavy duty segment. It has been selling tipper vehicles in three capacities — 25 tonne, 31 tonne and 49 tonne. Last year, AMW sold around 6,000 vehicles and going by the current rate of about 1,000 vehicles a month, it expects to double the sales this year...  Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the company's Managing Director and CEO, Mr Anirudh Bhuwalka, said that at present AMW has 17 products on the roads, and would have 22 by the end of the current financial year. Today, some 22,000 trucks made by the company (at its plant in Bhuj) ply on the roads, he said...


* China - Fujian Daimler starts production of Sprinter van in


Fuzhou,Fujian,China -ABR (UK) -1 November 2011: -- Fujian Daimler Automotive (FJDA) has started production of the Sprinter van at its Fuzhou plant in China, which marks the third model for the joint venture, joining the Viano and Vito vans...  Three Sprinter models are expected to be launched in the Chinese market with three different body lengths and different kinds of seating arrangements accordingly...  The company said that depending on their different needs, customers can choose between 14-seats, 17-seats, and 20-seats for reliable and safe people transportation... 


* Germany - VW-Suzuki divorce!!! Is this a takeover stunt??

Wofsburg,Germany -GearHeads -Nov 2011: -- For past 2 months we have seen news around the internet about the straining relationship between Suzuki and VW. They both were in relationship for more than 2 years now without a child J , now due to their childless marriage and bleak future for a child, Suzuki served the green notice to VW and want to get a divorce. VW on the other hand keeping mum on this and being very careful on their press meets. Suzuki has come out openly on their infertile relationship with VW and wants to buy back 19.9% shares which VW currently holds. VW will incur a loss in this selling as Suzuki shares fell heavily after the resent quakes and new about failed relationship with VW added up more dent...  Suzuki wants to become a global player and chose the partnership route to establish across the globe...  Interesting twist in the Volkswagen-Suzuki episode: Suzuki could be doing Volkswagen a favor by filing for divorce. This way, Volkswagen can swallow Suzuki whole...  According to a report in the German magazine Der Spiegel, there is a clause in the agreement between Volkswagen and Suzuki that precludes Volkswagen from getting more than the current 19.9 percent of Suzuki. However, if Suzuki cancels the agreement, then Volkswagen is no longer bound to that clause either and can start buying Suzuki shares in the open market, or from willing sellers. With its 19.9 percent, Volkswagen already is the largest single shareholder of Suzuki...


* Illinois - Caterpillar to Manufacture Off-Highway Trucks in Russia

Peoria,Illinois,USA -American Machinist, by Robert Brooks -7 Nov 2011: -- Caterpillar Inc. plans to expand the range of products manufactured at its Tosno plant, near St. Petersburg, Russia, to include off-highway trucks...  It said production will begin immediately, and shipments of finished trucks will be made this year... Caterpillar plans to produce its 773E off-highway trucks... Caterpillar’s off-highway trucks are designed specifically for mining, quarrying, and construction use, with nominal payloads from 40 to 100 tons and engines rated from 1,750 to 2,000 RPM...


* California - Balqon Corporation Enters European Electric Yard Tractor Market
