* USA - Class 8 Truck Orders Jump 17 percent, reports FTR.
Nashville,IN,USA -Today's Trucking -3 Nov 2011: -- October Class 8 truck total net orders for all major North American OEM's have climbed 17 percent over September, reported Freight Transport Research (FTR) Associates... While the data is still preliminary, the numbers are also showing a year over year increase of 46 percent, and the third consecutive month of improved order activity... Orders for the three month period of August, September and October annualize to 287,500 units, FTR said...
* California - Daimler Celebrates 1,000th Natural Gas Truck
Anaheim,CAL,USA -Today's Trucking -8 Nov 2011: -- Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) celebrated the delivery of their 1,000th natural gas truck yesterday... DTNA says that it is the first north American commercial vehicle manufacturer to hit 1,000 natural gas trucks.. The keys to the Freightliner 114SD compressed natural gas (CNG) truck went to Ryder System, Inc... The truck is powered by a Cummins Westport ISL G 8.9 liter engine, the only one of its kind that is a factory-produced, dedicated natural gas engine, DTNA said...
* DC - General Dynamics grows its military-truck unit. Force Protection deal highlights demand even as war budgets shrink

Washington,DC,USA -MarketWatch, by Christopher Hinton -Nov. 7, 2011: -- General Dynamics Corp. said Monday it would buy armored-truck maker Force Protection Inc. in a $360 million deal that highlights a growth area in the military market despite anxious talk of government austerity... The global demand for armored military trucks and related services, particularly for those designed for protection against roadside bombs, remains robust. The U.K. recently ordered 200 Force Protection trucks and is mulling a follow-on purchase, and Australia is considering a 1,300-unit order valued at more than $1.4 billion... Furthermore, with the winding down of U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, there will be opportunities to rebuild existing armored trucks..
* Michigan - Services Police Truck's Got A Hemi
Auburn Hills,MICH,USA -Jalopnik -9 Nov 2011: -- Starting this month, Ram Truck will be offering a new Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 Special Service package for law enforcement and other emergency agencies through Chrysler Group Fleet sales. The new Ram package features a selection of severe-duty-adapted equipment for the 2012 Ram 1500 — like a Power Distribution Center (PDC) with fusing and relays and two separate 100-amp main fuses and several other features — like, you know, the 390 HP and 401 lb-ft of torque 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine and a 3.92 axle ratio... Because yeah, that police truck's got a Hemi.
* B.C. / Canada - Truck conversion facility a possibility
Chatham,British Columbia,CAN -The Chatham Daily News, by BOB BOUGHNER -8 Nov 2011: -- Talks have resumed between a local truck salesman and a British Columbia-based truck maker to locally produce right-hand drive units for Africa... Don Tetrault of Tatro Equipment Sales Ltd. in Chatham discussed the possibility on the weekend with Geoff Gogle of Mammoth Truck Corp. of Summerland, B.C.... Gogle called Tetrault after an article appeared in the Saturday edition of The Chatham Daily News about two right-hand drive trucks parked in a compound on Keil Drive... Gogle was the initiator of the project - that was eventually abandoned... Tetrault said he was initially involved in the project designed to convert used truck chassis with imported cabs from China to right-hand drive units for Africa... Gogle said his small truck manufacturing facility is located in the wrong place in Canada - too far from the east coast shipping ports...
