* New York - Class 8 Net Orders Exceed Expectations in October: ACT

New York,NY,USA -Trailer Body -Nov 2, 2011: -- North American Class 8 commercial vehicle preliminary net orders for October surprised on the upside, improving both month-over-month and year-over-year, according to ACT Research Co., LLC (ACT)... The final numbers, which will be released mid-November, will approach 27,700 units for Class 8 trucks and 13,300 for Class 5-7 vehicles. * New York - Icahn offers director nominees for Oshkosh board

New York,NY,USA -MarketWatch, by Bob Tita -Nov. 5, 2011: -- Activist investor Carl Icahn said Friday he intends to nominate a slate of six associates as directors of Oshkosh Corp., after taking a large stake in the specialty truck maker earlier this year... A date for Oshkosh's annual shareholder meeting hasn't been set, but will likely take place early next year. Twelve of Oshkosh's 13 directors are elected annually... The nominees to the Oshkosh board represent Icahn's first public move since disclosing a 9.5% stake in Oshkosh's stock in June... Oshkosh said its board will consider Icahn's nominations, but stressed that the current directors and executive management team are committed to improving the company's performance... Demand for Oshkosh's commercial trucks has fallen steadily in recent years because of reductions in construction activity. Meanwhile, cuts in state and local government spending have choked off sales of Oshkosh's fire trucks and ambulances. Oshkosh's military trucks unit, its best business lately, is facing the prospect of lower orders from the U.S. government as it reduces defense spending...


* Illinois - Rand McNally, Navistar Go International

Warrenville,ILL,USA -NBC Chicago, by David Wolinsky -Nov 7, 2011 -- Navistar Inc., the holding company that owns the manufacturer of International brand commercial trucks has announced it'll be teaming up with Skokie's Rand McNally, the makers of those fine atlases, globes, and maps, to install the latter's IntelliRoute TND GPS units as an in-dash option in trucks starting 2012...  Even though it's two local companies teaming up, we can beat our chests a little as Navistar's VP of Product and Vocational Marketing Steve Gilligan told Automotive Business Review, that after extensive market research "the Rand McNally unit met [our] requirements better than any of the other units we have reviewed"   ...


* Indiana - Bright Automotive Enters into Agreement with AM General for Assembly of Bright Idea® Plug-In Hybrid Electric Work-Truck Platform

* Louisiana - GM to close Shreveport truck plant next summer

Shreveport,LA,USA -GasBuddy -Oct 28, 2011 : -- The Shreveport planned previously produced Hummer H3 models and continues to build GM’s mid-size Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks. However, the plant will officially close its doors on August 23, depending on any orders by dealers or customers...  The Shreveport plant was the only factory marked for closure in GM’s recent labor deal with the UAW...   But while the Shreveport plant won’t continue on, the Chevrolet Colorado will. GM recently confirmed that its will build the next-generation of the compact truck at its Wentzville, Missouri truck plant. GM has yet to announce when that truck will enter production, but it could be as soon as next summer...
