Truck Sales * USA - Continue to Grow

New York,NY,USA -Transport Topics -13 Oct 2011: -- Despite the drop in consumer confidence and less-than-glowing economic reports in September, sales of medium-duty trucks continued to grow at a steady pace...  Truck makers reported selling 240,356 new medium-duty (Classes 3-7) trucks through September, 24% more than over the same time last year, according to figures released Thursday from WardsAuto.com...  Individually, Hino Trucks and Peterbilt Motors both recorded the biggest gains, selling 46% more trucks each through the first nine months this year than in the same period in 2010. Freightliner also had a healthy sales gain of 38% over this time compared with 2010...   Navistar Inc.’s International brand reported selling 24,994 Classes 6 and 7 trucks through September, giving it a 40% share of that market segment. Freightliner was next with 34% of sales in those classes, according to WardsAuto.com...  Chrysler’s Ram Trucks and Ford Motor Co. continue to outpace all manufacturers...  Ram is the leader with 31% of all sales in Classes 3-7, thanks to its dominance in Class 3 where it captured 50% of the sales through September. Ford Motor Co. is second with 30% of sales in Classes 3-7. Ford’s share of Class 3 sales, where it used to lead, is now at 31%, but it sells units in every medium-duty class while Ram reports sales only in Classes 3 and 5...

New York,NY,USA -Fleet Owner -Oct 14, 2011: -- Medium- and heavy-duty truck sales jumped 51.7% in September year-over-year, according to data compiled by WardsAuto.com. As good as sales were, it does represent a slight decline from August’s 54.2% increase...  Class 8 sales increased 69.5% and all brands saw double-digit increases with the exception of Mack. Western Star posted a 305.3% gain and Volvo 126.9%...  Daimler sold 5,671 units in September to lead the way...  In medium duty, sales increased 32.3%, led by Daimler’s 271% increase and International’s 104.3% gain in Class 6 sales. Class 7 dropped 1.6% on an 86.3% decline at UD Trucks and 44.5% drop at Ford. Kenworth posted a 99.3% increase in Class 7...  Class 6 saw an 81.1% increase overall. Class 5 was also up, 39.3%, with Chrysler gaining 123.7%. In Class 4, Isuzu posted a 186.8% increase as sales overall climbed 10.3% in the class...

Washington,DC,USA -Penton Media/Fleet Owner -Oct 13, 2011: -- The U.S. Army Contracting Command has awarded Mack Defense, a division of Mack Trucks, a contract to supply the Mack Granite to West-Mark... West-Mark manufactures tank transportation equipment for security forces serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries. The 3-year contract has a total value of $37.8 million with a two-year option. As part of the contract, Mack will supply spare parts and in-country service points... Deliveries will start in early 2012...
