Paris,France -Reuters -Sept 24, 2010: -- European commercial vehicle sales rose 10 percent in August, reflecting ongoing signs of economic recovery in the region even as truckmakers set their sights on stronger growth in emerging markets... August's gain -- nearly double July's rise -- brought growth in European Union registrations to 5 percent in January through August, industry association ACEA said on Friday...Commercial vehicle sales in Europe fell more than 30 percent last year as the credit squeeze prevented businesses from renewing their fleets and the global economic downturn stifled demand for transporting goods... * Germany - Mercedes-Benz truck plant trains drivers, fleet managers too

Worth,Germany -Fleet Owner, by Jim Mele -Sep 27, 2010: -- Training to help fleets improve profitability is part of the deal when you buy a new Mercedes-Benz truck in Europe. The program, called MB ProfiTraining, is a good example of the expanded customer services that will become an increasingly important part of the truck manufacturing business, according to Andreas Renschler, head of Daimler Truck, the parent of Europe’s MB Truck as well as Daimler Trucks North America (Freightliner and Western Star) in North America and Fuso in Asia... Drivers who complete the one- day course and pass a final road test often see at least a 7% improvement in fuel economy, with some seeing their efficiency go up as much as 20%, according to Mathias Beismann, a lead instructor for ProfiTraining... As an added bonus, those passing the course also satisfy a European Union requirement for professional recertification of all truck drivers every five years... Longer two- and three-day programs are also available at the Worth facility for fleet trainers and managers to help them train their entire driver pool in the EcoDriving techniques... * Brazil - Volkswagen Heavy Trucks in South American ... in praise of the bright 'Constellation'

Resende,RJ,Brazil -Biglorryblog -September 28, 2010: ... Sitting through the recent MAN press conference at the IAA in Hanover last week I found myself was wondering if MAN and VW had given up any plans to offer the Titan Constellation (built in South America) in Europe. It's definitely going to South Africa but after secret shots of a Titan Constellation being trialled in Britain appeared in the UK press some time ago it's all gone rather quiet...
Since MAN bought the VW's Brazilian based truck and bus operation in Resende in 2009 there's been a lot of speculation as to what the Bavarians would do with it and the local factory that makes the Constellation and have already launched their own trucks---TGS/X models in South America following the acquisition alongside the VW product line-up... I would hope that MAN would keep the VW Constellation Titan going, it's an attractive model and it ensures there's plenty of variety in the global truck market...otherwise we'll all end up with an 'identikit' world truck that's the same for everyone....vive le difference says Biglorryblog! ...
