Manufacturers cut into backlog as truckers replace older equipment

Columbus,Ind,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by William B. Cassidy -Sep 24, 2010: -- Commercial trailer orders rose 2 percent from July to August, and were up 55 percent from a year ago, ACT Research reports... Eight of the nine trailer categories tracked by ACT posted year-over-year growth, with only dump truck trailer orders declining... That indicates truckers are replacing aging equipment, said Kenny Vieth, partner and senior analyst with the research firm... Trailer manufacturers increased their per day build rate by 6 percent in August, pushing the backlog of trailer orders down for the first time in eight months...
