Green Initiatives Worldwide * Germany - European CV makers develop 'evaluation tool' on CO2 emissions
Hanover,Germany -Just-auto (UK) -21 September 2010: -- Europe's commercial vehicle manufacturers are developing an evaluation tool to calculate real-life CO2 emissions from trucks and buses ahead of purchase... ACEA initiative marks an important step pledging to further reduce CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020 (the 20% reduction is against a 2005 base)... The calculation methodology promoted by ACEA uses computer simulation based on real-life tests with trucks and buses in a number of categories, ranging from city buses and garbage trucks, to delivery vehicles and long-haul transport. Emissions are calculated in grammes of CO2 per tonne-kilometre, cubic metre-kilometre of goods or passenger-kilometre to 'properly reflect the purpose and usage of the vehicle concerned'... ACEA says that the commercial vehicle industry has already cut the fuel consumption of its products by more than a third since the 1970s. Pollutant emissions such as nitrogen oxides and particulate matter have already been reduced by as much as 85% and 95% respectively since the late 1980s, it says...

Several companies used this year’s 6th annual meeting in New York City yesterday to try and solve some of transportation’s issues... Donlen, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), GreenDriver, and the Electric Drive Transportation Assn. (EDTA), all proposed plans to improve the environmental impact of transportation in the U.S... Donlen is a fleet leasing and management company. To help meet its end of the commitment, the company will work with customers to benchmark baseline fleet emissions and follow through with emissions reduction plans to increase fuel efficiency, reduce miles traveled, to use low-carbon fuels, and deploy technologically advanced vehicles... EDTA, a trade association representing battery, plug-in, hybrid and fuel cell electric drive technologies and infrastructure, announced its "Plug-in Electric Vehicle Acceleration Initiative", that will offer educational and outreach programs to support the growth of plug-in vehicles. Among the goals are to create a new consumer-oriented website with input from more than 60 companies and organizations that will serve as a clearinghouse for information on purchasing, owning, and operation plug-in vehicles...
