Dublin,Ireland -HGV Ireland -October 8, 2009: ... The proposed tax would hit haulage operators across Europe particularly hard, as diesel is not a discretionary spend for hauliers... The proposal has the backing of the Nordic countries and by France, which has introduced a carbon tax on domestic fuel... The proposal, from Laszlo Kovacs, the European Taxation Commissioner, has also gained the backing of Belgium’s as a means of shifting revenue collection from unpopular payroll taxes to consumption taxes on carbon...
